POSITION OVERVIEW:

SGL is seeking a skilled Ocean Export Coordinator in Atlanta. A successful candidate must have 2+ years of experience in Ocean Export, preferably at a logistics and/or freight forwarding company. The Ocean Export Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating air freight shipments, ensuring compliance with customs regulations, and delivering exceptional service to our clients.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Ocean Export experience +2 years (is must)
  • Experience in freight forwarding Ocean operations processes and procedures.
  • Experience of bonded freight and cargo

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must pass TSA eligibility screening

Responsibilities
  • Demonstrate strong emphasis on customer satisfaction per company policy.
  • Must possess a comprehensive understanding of the Export & Import Regulations or other government agency regulations that govern exports.
  • In-depth understanding of the Ocean Export process, EEI, and NVOCC / Non-NVOCC
  • Complete process of ocean shipment, including arrangement for pick-up or inland transportation, booking, timely document preparation (bill of lading, invoicing, certificate of origin, export declaration and/or AES, if applicable), follow-up with tracking and tracing to final destination.
  • Receive, review, and ensure documentation is accurately processed, distributed, and released to carriers, customers and agents in a timely manner.
  • Obtain and create quotes for shipments and source the best method of transportation, communicating with overseas agents to ensure proper pre-alerts and documents.
  • Uphold strong and professional relationships with ocean intermediaries, transportation agencies and sales. Take booking requests, ensure bookings are made at current and accurate rates, consolidate and route shipments based on local office procedures from departure, arrival, customs clearance, PODs, etc.
  • Continue to export different options to reduce costs and increase revenue.
  • Arrange and book steamship shipping and ensure shipments are pre-alerted in a timely manner once on-board notifications are confirmed.
  • Prepare and review export documents such as shipping instructions, certificates of origin, and other cargo-related files.
  • Arrange for container pickup and return to shipyard.
  • Coordination of daily shipments (documentation, monitoring, arranging pickup/ dispatching, communicate with carriers and issuing invoices etc.)
  • Communicate/correspond with vendor, shipper, customer carrier, overseas agents, freight forwarders, customs broker, local pickup and delivery companies etc. in a timely manner, to include pre-alerts, rate requests, shipment status, etc.
  • Track and trace shipments providing updates to clients and sales.
  • Responds to emails and rate requests in a timely manner, assisting local sales efforts.
  • Review standard operating procedures to ensure compliance, FMC, Quality Assurance Standards, TAPA, and IMDG, ISO, Customs, etc.
  • Understand department process flow, looking for best practices to improve operational efficiency and productivity.
  • Complete all inbound/outbound moves; this includes, but is not limited to, ITs and permits to transfer.
  • Assist as backup for alternate accounts.
  • Escalation of problems to Management when necessary
  • Perform any other duties that may be assigned by the Department Manage
