This is a direct hire, full-time onsite position based in Atlanta, GA.

POSITION OVERVIEW:

SGL is seeking an experienced Ocean Export Supervisor to lead our export operations team in Atlanta. The ideal candidate will bring 3+ years of hands-on ocean export experience in freight forwarding or logistics, with strong knowledge of U.S. export compliance and international shipping regulations. As a Supervisor, you will oversee daily operations, provide team guidance, ensure regulatory compliance, and deliver superior service to clients and partners. This role requires someone with a proven ability to manage the full shipment lifecycle, mentor junior staff, and collaborate with carriers, vendors, and overseas agents to achieve operational excellence.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum 3+ years of experience in ocean export operations (supervisory or lead role preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. Export Regulations, AES filings, EEI, and NVOCC/Non-NVOCC procedures.
  • Experience with bonded freight and cargo.
  • Previous exposure to team leadership or mentoring roles a plus.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Proactive problem-solving attitude with ability to handle escalations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Outlook, Word) and logistics systems.
  • Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment.

EDUCATION:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required (Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, or International Business preferred).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.

WORK AUTHORIZATION/SECURITY CLEARANCE REQUIREMENTS:

  • Must be eligible to work in the United States
  • Must pass TSA eligibility screening.

    Salary: $70,000 - $75,000 Annually
Responsibilities
  • Supervise and guide the Ocean Export team, ensuring all shipments are processed accurately, on time, and in compliance with regulations.
  • Provide training, mentoring, and performance feedback to team members.
  • Act as the escalation point for complex customer and operational issues.
  • Oversee the end-to-end ocean export process, including booking, container arrangement, inland transport, documentation, AES filings, and final delivery coordination.
  • Ensure compliance with U.S. Customs, FMC, and other regulatory bodies.
  • Monitor team workload, prioritizing urgent shipments and balancing operational capacity.
  • Review and approve export documentation (bill of lading, certificates of origin, commercial invoices, AES, etc.).
  • Maintain strong relationships with carriers, NVOCCs, customers, and overseas agents.
  • Provide clients with timely shipment updates, handling escalations with professionalism.
  • Support sales by preparing quotes and providing rate guidance as needed.
  • Implement and enforce Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and optimize carrier/vendor partnerships.
  • Ensure strict adherence to FMC, IMDG, ISO, and other international quality/compliance standards.
  • Coordinate with warehouse, dispatch, customs brokers, and trucking partners for seamless operations.
  • Ensure pre-alerts, shipment status updates, and documentation are communicated effectively to all stakeholders.
  • Support cross-functional teams with problem-solving and decision-making.
