Description The Ocean Manager is responsible for managing the Ocean Export and Import Departments and ensuring excellence in customer service and operations while optimizing profitability. This position is also responsible for managing and leading the staff of the Ocean Export and Import Departments. JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervises workforce and mentors the Ocean Export and Import Department staff. Ensures excellence in file level execution and customer satisfaction Provides continuous training and mentoring, while also maintaining a policy of zero errors. Responsible for full compliance with Customs/TSA and other government agencies which have functions or duties related to all export and import activities and administrative laws & regulations. Ensures that all operational KPI’s and financial goals are met. Reviews existing business to increase the margin per file through improved buying and process optimization. Ensures execution of branch and product strategies, Shared responsibility of the department P&L Works with the Sales Team to build account bases and file counts, while maintaining the highest level of customer service. Works with internal partners to increase and develop of the consolidation program. Continues to build Dachser’s relationships with multiple carriers and subcontractors. Performs other duties as required and assigned. Requirements REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES BS/BA degree preferred or equivalent related work experience. 5 years of experience working in freight forwarding, or a related discipline, with progressive supervisory and/or management responsibility. Good people management skills. Results driven. Strong financial understanding. Strong customer service focus and high level of negotiation skills. Strong knowledge of Ocean Export, Ocean Import & TSA and IAC regulations and documentation. Strong working knowledge of related operations programs. Hazmat certification preferred. Excellent carrier/vendor negotiation skills. Professional demeanor, including excellent written & verbal communication skills. Stellar organizational skills and the ability to meet deadlines. Proficiency in Windows programs, specifically Word and Excel. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORK ENVIRONMENT No heavy lifting is expected; although exertion of up to 20 pounds of force may be required on occasion. Manual dexterity for the use of common office equipment, such as computers, copiers, fax machines, etc. Sitting for extended periods of time is common. Hearing and vision within average range to receive ordinary information and to prepare or inspect documents. This position is performed in a traditional office setting.
