Description
Coordinates activities between hospital departments and acts as liaison between physicians, nurses, families, etc. Assumes public relations function, responding to press calls, dealing with police, community agencies and other hospitals, as necessary. Makes arrangements between hospitals for borrowing and loaning equipment. Assists patients and families with social and behavioral problems. Serves as an expert clinical resource for patient placement. Works in collaboration with the admitting office to provide appropriate placement of all admissions and transfers from internal and external sources. Acts as central contact with the authority to make all bed management decisions. Monitors bed availability and turnover with input from leadership and staff in all areas. Facilitate continuous patient throughput with effective communication with staff and leadership in all areas. Facilitates the coordination of patient’s transfer with physicians, staff RN’s, and other departments. Arranges Patient Services staffing for the following shift, documenting absenteeism. Also, assesses weekend staffing on a continuous basis, adjusting for changes in patient care, activity or illness/injury of staff members, etc. Makes hospital rounds to key in on important patient information nursing reports. Establishes and maintains effective communication with other Managers. Contributes to the evaluation process of nursing staff in conjunction with Nurse Managers. Provides leadership to staff as necessary. Participates in formal conference sessions with union representatives. Participates in grievance procedure and arbitration, when necessary. Acts as resource person for staff in clinical and administrative matters. Investigates all Unusual Incidents. Supports, interprets and enforces Patient Services and Hospital Policies and Procedures. Participates in Patient Services and Hospital committees. Functions as member of code team. Conducts postcode critique. Promotes quality care through use of the Nursing Process and collaborates with Education/Training Services as needs are identified. Reviews care plans and evaluate implementation based on patient outcomes. Conducts informal patient care conferences. Assists with patient assessments, as necessary. Responsibilities involve continual analysis and balancing of priorities to effectively manage all administrative and patient care functions on assigned shift. Keeps Chief Executive Officer/Chief Nursing Officer informed as appropriate. Participates in the identification, creation, implementation, and evaluation of Process Improvement projects for assigned areas. Maintains current knowledge of The Joint Commission and other applicable regulatory standards. Participates in regulatory inspections and action plans as needed. Performs other work-related duties as assigned or requested. Challenges current working practices; identifies process improvement opportunities and presents recommendations and solutions to management. Engages and commits to the organization’s culture of continuous improvement by actively participating, supporting, and promoting CCHC Pillars of Excellence. (RN) - Currently licensed as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts (BLS) - Basic Life Support certification (obtain within 30 days, offered within) (ACLS) - Current Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (obtain within 30 days, offered within) CCHC Pharmacology Exam (pass prior to start date) CCHC Basic Arrhythmia Exam (pass prior to start date) (De-escalation) – Completion of an approved De-escalation Certification Course (obtain within 90 days, offered within). (Preferred) Three years experience in Critical Care or Emergency Department
