ABOUT US:

Congregation Or HaTzafon is a small but vibrant Reform Jewish synagogue serving Interior Alaska. As the northernmost Reform congregation in North America, we are proud to maintain an inclusive and welcoming space for Jewish life, learning, and community connection.
We are currently seeking a Part-Time Office Administrator to support the day-to-day operations of our synagogue and serve as the first point of contact for members, guests, and the broader community.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Office Administrator is the administrative backbone of the synagogue. This role combines front-office reception with behind-the-scenes support for our Board of Directors, clergy, and volunteers. The right candidate will be organized, personable, responsive, and able to manage a wide variety of tasks with professionalism and discretion.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Previous administrative or office management experience
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Comfortable taking direction from multiple people and shifting priorities
Excellent organizational skills with attention to detail
Proficiency with email, Google Docs, spreadsheets, and office equipment
Basic bookkeeping experience (QuickBooks preferred) - this is negotiable as we employ a bookkeeper.
Ability to update a website and manage a Facebook page
Able to maintain a high level of confidentiality and professionalism

Responsibilities

Serve as the main point of contact for the synagogue—answer phone calls, emails, and greet visitors
Provide administrative support to the Board of Directors and President
Maintain calendars, member records, and filing systems (both paper and electronic)
Track membership, donations, and other financial data using QuickBooks and spreadsheets in coordination with our bookkeeper.
Coordinate building use and security, including event setup and vendor communication
Assist with synagogue communications: weekly newsletter, event notices, and social media updates
Help prepare for major holidays and events (e.g., Passover, High Holy Days), including logistics, volunteer recruitment, and guest coordination
Attend and support monthly Board meetings (agenda, minutes, document distribution) - this will be optional as the meetings are held from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Provide occasional support to the Religious School, Choir, and other committees as needed
Update the synagogue website and help schedule Zoom events or services
