The Office Assistant, as part of the substance use disorder treatment team, is responsible for developing respectful, professional relationships with clients that assist them in being successful in their journey to recovery. The office assistant provides excellent customer service for patients at the front desk and/or over the phone. The office assistant schedules appointments, greets and checks in patients, receives payments, collects patient demographic and assessment information, confirms patient income and eligibility for insurance and other health care programs, directs patients and visitors, conducts drug test urinalysis, performs clerical duties, and provides transportation. The office assistant works in a fast-paced environment and displays a friendly manner, a commitment to service, strong decision-making skills, and the ability to remain calm under pressure. Wage Range: $19.83 - $21.36 per hour Schedule: Monday - Friday, 8:00am - 5:00 pm FTE: 1.0 This position is represented by a collective bargaining agreement. All candidates who receive a written offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for commonly abused controlled substances Requirements Requirements: High school diploma or general education degree (GED). Valid, unrestricted driver’s license Desired Experience and Skills: 1-3 years of previous customer service, administrative support, or office experience. Prefer experience to be in a comparable setting to the position filled. Proficient in medical, dental, nutrition, behavioral health, substance use disorder (SUD) or other terminology pertinent to the position and to outpatient social service office procedures. Demonstrated ability to work with a low-income, multi-ethnic patient population and relate respectfully and effectively to people of diverse racial, educational, and socio-economic backgrounds. Must be a confident, self-directed individual who can work within a team as well as independently. Must demonstrate excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, utilizing concise and comprehensive documentation with strong technical writing and record-keeping skills. Knowledge of evidence-based behavioral health, SUD services and/or healthcare billing as applicable to the position Background in customer service, patient education, and lifestyle risk reduction. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.
