New Hires Starting Rate -$23.22 per hour 35 Hours Per Week POSITION SUMMARY: This position is the Office Support to the Civil Division. The primary responsibility is to receive all documents relating to the Original Process and report the details of the service to the Court of Common Pleas. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential Functions Receive and process all documents (ie, Complaints, Summons, Writs, etc) coming from Prothonotary, law firms, individuals, and other counties and states. Report details of services (“returns of service”) performed by Sheriff’s Deputies to the Prothonotary, law firms, individuals, and other counties and states. Calculate all costs payable to the Sheriff relating to the service of the Original Process. Process all subpoenas to be served by Sheriff’s Deputies and provide service details to Reading Central Court. Update and maintain the Jail List with service details of subpoenas. Process all incoming Protection from Abuse Orders and report details of service in PFAD. Assist the Real Estate Administrator with Sheriff’s Sale documents and filings. Process all Domestic Relations Services and provide service details to DRO. Assist the public, both in person and by phone, with questions related to the office and its duties. Other tasks as needed to support and ensure efficient operations. Non-Essential Functions Daily filing MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: HS diploma required. Experience in the civil and/or criminal judicial system preferred. Any equivalent combination of experience and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities. MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES: Basic elements of English language usage, spelling, and arithmetic. Ability to perform routine clerical work. Ability to utilize a computer and basic office equipment. Knowledge of office methods, practices, and procedures, and ability to make arithmetical calculations. Ability to understand and carry out oral and written directions. Ability to maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted in the performance of duties, to include all other employees. Knowledge of the law as it pertains to County government. Ability to handle confidential information with discretion. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to handle stress. Physical presence in the office is required. PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work involves walking, talking, hearing, using hands to handle, feel objects, tools, or controls, and reaching with hands and arms. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision and the ability to adjust focus. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds a distance of fifteen (15) feet or less.
