This role is in the Offshore Delivery Team where the successful candidate will fulfil the role of “Offshore Owners Engineer”. This role will carry out owners engineering duties focused on the transmission assets associated with offshore wind farm projects. Typical duties will entail design reviews, assessing compliance with EirGrid’s specifications, and ensuring the operability, maintainability and reliability of the transmission assets.
The Offshore Owners Protection & Control Engineer will focus on secondary systems associated with transmission infrastructure. This includes due diligence, on, but not limited to, the design, testing, commissioning, parameterisation and maintenance of SCADA and telecom systems, fibre optical cables, the design, set-up and operations of control centres and the interfaces between those systems and HV/MV equipment and protection and control systems.
The successful candidate will have practical experience in the design and commissioning of SCADA and telecom systems in offshore applications. An important aspect of this role is a requirement to exercise expert technical judgement and the ability to ensure that the requirements are being adhered to on specific projects. This will require professional and strategic management of both internal and external stakeholders.
- Assist in the development of a suitable SCADA architecture at project and control centre level and the setup of necessary real-time monitoring platforms.
- Assist in the development of requirements for a future asset management control centre focused on monitoring the health and condition of assets associated with offshore wind farms.
- Act as a technical lead and design authority for engineering deliverables, installation and commissioning activities of SCADA and telecom system.
- Ensure that technical, operational and maintenance queries raised during project execution are dealt with in accordance with TSO standards and policies and are closed out efficiently.
Ensure that projects are carried out in a manner which meets EirGrid requirements by:
- Reviewing and comparing submitted detailed designs against EirGrid’s functional requirements, outline designs and operations and maintenance requirements.
- Onsite inspection and monitoring of construction progress for compliance with EirGrid standards, functional requirements, outline designs and operations and maintenance requirements.
- Ensure developments are commissioned to comply with the EirGrid requirements by:
- Reviewing and providing input to commissioning requirements.
- Verifying transmission system requirements are met to allow commissioning activities to proceed.
- Lead the engagement with customer and stakeholder technical consultants as and when required with reference to operational matters.
- Co-ordinate with peers within EirGrid to meet business priorities, manage issues as they arise, provide guidance and act as an escalation point to offshore delivery team leadership.
- Manage interactions on projects with client engineering vendors, customers and internal stakeholders as required.
- Provide direction and assistance across the organisation on projects and to team members and junior staff and act as a team representative when required.
- Contribute to completion of Stage Gate Reviews on all customer projects to ensure that the requirements of EirGrid functional specifications are met. Ensure completion and dissemination lessons learned on each project post project energisation.
- Input to reviews and assist in introduction of new tools and technologies; assist in developing and implementing procedures as required to effectively deliver transmission projects.
- Lead engagement and coordination with our partners in ESB Networks including meetings, reporting, relationship management, and general communication as applicable to the owners engineering role.
- Lead engagement and coordination with the EirGrid client engineering function including meetings, reporting, relationship management, and general communication as applicable to the owners engineering role.
- Facilitate and input into project reviews, assessment and auditing by internal and external parties as required.
- Prepare and present reports and project approval papers for the Offshore Programme Board, Offshore Executive Committee and Board as required.
