QUALIFICATIONS

University graduation in a related field (e.g., public administration, political science, labour studies) plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience in policy analysis and development; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency: Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  • Proven ability to proactively monitor and conduct strategic analysis of complex issues, trends and events for the purpose of making policy and legislative recommendations.
  • Skilled in writing briefing notes, correspondence, reports and other materials for senior leadership.
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate, including the ability to summarize information from a variety of different sources succinctly in plain language, both in writing and verbally.
  • Demonstrated experience in supporting the development of policy, regulation and/or legislation, including conducting the necessary research and analysis.
  • Good judgement and political acumen including understanding when issues need to be brought to the attention of leadership, to make sound policy recommendations, and to establish orunderstand the direction of strategic projects and initiatives.
  • Agility to support a wide variety of projects and processes simultaneously, utilizing strong time management skills and the ability to work independently, particularly under tight timelines. This includes the ability to shift priorities in response to emerging issues or changing direction.
  • Proven ability to contribute to projects and issue recommendations in a multi-faceted stakeholder environment.
  • Proficient in planning and facilitating stakeholder and/or public engagement.
Responsibilities

The OHS Policy Analyst will report the Manager of OHS and WCB Policy and Legislation. This position is responsible for supporting policy and project management work associated with regular review and update of OHS and worker compensation policy and legislation to ensure it achieves the department’s goals and is responsive to the needs of stakeholders. The OHS Policy Analyst provides expertise on OHS and worker compensation legislation to support the development of strategic advice to decision makers with respect to OHS and worker compensation trends and issues.

The key responsibilities of the OHS Policy Analyst within the Workplace Policy and Legislation Branch include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Identify and manage issues, trends and developments related to OHS and worker compensation.
  • Provide policy advice on OHS and workers’ compensation issues and support changes to OHS and workers’ compensation legislation.
  • Establish and foster collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Plan and support engagement with external stakeholders that informs OHS and worker compensation legislation.
