Summary
Hotel Magdalena is looking for an On-Call Bartender/Server who will work closely with our Event Captains and Event Operations Manager to ensure the flawless execution of events. This person will be responsible for setting up event spaces, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, and attentively catering to the needs of our guests. This position is on an on-call basis, with hours varying depending on staffing requirements.

This person will be responsible for setting up event spaces, maintaining a high standard of cleanliness, and attentively catering to the needs of our guests. This position is on an on-call basis, with hours varying depending on staffing requirements.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Six (6) months related experience in hospitality or service industry
  • Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) of the workplace
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of co-workers and sister property staff
  • Ability to understand other computer programs (i.e. Property Management System and Point of Sale)

Job Requirements:

  • Take beverage orders from serving staff or directly from patrons
  • Mix ingredients to prepare and garnish cocktails and other beverages according to Bunkhouse standards
  • Serve snacks or food items to customers as requested or submit order to Kitchen
  • Clean glasses, utensils, and bar equipment
  • Arrange bottles and glasses to make attractive displays
  • Help plan and organize the menu and operations of the Cocktail Lounge or Bar
  • Ensure immediate response is given to any and all guest comments and concerns and inform immediate supervisor of concerns and assist implementing corrective measure when necessary
  • Collect money for all orders taken
  • Check identification of customers to verify age requirements for purchase of alcohol
  • Balance cash receipts
  • Attempt to limit problems and liability related to customers’ excessive drinking by taking steps such as persuading customers to stop drinking, or ordering taxis or other transportation for intoxicated patrons
  • Order or requisition liquors and supplies
  • Ask customers who become loud and unruly to leave
  • Assist with banquet function activities to meet the expectations of client and hotel standards in terms of appearance, set-up, service, and food quality.
  • Anticipate guests’ needs, respond promptly and acknowledge all guests, however busy and whatever time of day.
  • Maintain complete knowledge of/comply with and enforce all departmental policies/service procedures/standards.

    Reviewing the BEO (Banquet Execution Order) before each event with the Event Captains.

  • Pull and return liquor, beer, and wine for all events and complete consumption sheets

  • Ability to adhere to instructions listed in Run of Show for every event, detailing all pertinent information prior to the event.

    Communicates with Chef and kitchen staff to coordinate timing needs for all food/ client requests.

  • Walk through the event space, ensuring all equipment are operational and to report any issues with the space or equipment to the appropriate department

  • Assist Event Captains in communication with clients, resolving guest complaints, and ensuring guest satisfaction when needed.
  • Assist with the closing of the event, ensuring all proper closing procedures are executed
  • Serve food or beverages to patrons, and prepare or serve specialty dishes at tables as required
  • Check patrons’ identification to ensure that they meet minimum age requirements for consumption of alcoholic beverages
  • Take orders from patrons for food or beverage
  • Must see to each guests’ special needs (i.e. dietary, splitting dishes, paying special attention to children)
  • Garnish and decorate dishes in preparation for serving

    Assist with running of food

  • Remove dishes and glasses from tables or counters, and take them to kitchen for cleaning

  • Prepare tables for meals, including setting up items such as linens, silverware, and glassware
  • Perform food and beverage preparation duties such as preparing salads, appetizers, and cold dishes, portioning desserts, brewing coffee, preparing hot or cold drinks, chilling wine
  • Always ensure open lines of communication with all departments and upper management via email, logbooks, meetings, etc., to ensure all needs of the hotel are met
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness and safety in the work area
  • Ensure that all equipment is maintained in good, safe working condition
  • Maintain an increased awareness of safety issues throughout the property
  • Keep abreast of safety and emergency procedures and OSHA requirements
  • Attend relevant meetings Based upon fluctuating demands of the operation and to exceed customer expectations, it may be necessary to perform a multitude of different functions not specifically related to this position. This person may be expected to perform other tasks and duties

as needed or as directed. Furthermore, employee responsibilities and job descriptions are subject to review and revision.

Both certifications must be current and maintained throughout employment.
