About Us On Street Support Officer - GRADE G5  Salary £35,520-£38,739 per annum (pro rata) The London Borough of Havering’s Housing Solutions Specialist Rough Sleeper Team, are an award winning multi-agency team.   Working with some of the boroughs most vulnerable residents, with multiple complex needs to find creative solutions to end their homelessness, improve their health and wellbeing.  About the Job We are currently looking for an On Street Support Officer to join our passionate team and support the delivery of our local strategy to end long-term rough sleeping outreach on a 12 month fixed term contract. As an On Street Support Officer, you will work as you will work as part of a multi-agency team within the Housing Solutions Specialist Rough Sleepers Team.  Providing a high quality, efficient and effective service to clients who experience long-term entrenched homelessness and those new to the streets, who often find it difficult to access services. The successful candidate will be helping individual rough sleepers with the most complex needs to move away from rough sleeping, by assisting clients to navigate through networks of provisions in order to identify and access appropriate advice, support and accommodation services.  You will identify clients and then work to build meaningful rapport and assist them to undertake an assessment process to allow people to gain access to the relevant services required to increase their quality of life and ultimately enter accommodation-based services and move away from rough sleeping, you will also work with enforcement officers to identify positive action requirements to divert away from street based activities such as begging.  About You * The successful candidate will have experience in working in an outreach role supporting rough sleepers with multiple complex needs and people engaged in street-based activity. * Experience in working in a multi-agency environment. * Experience of motivating complex and diverse client groups to sustaining housing, health and or work outcomes. * An understanding of the services and legislative environment regarding, housing and health, work and immigration as it relates to homeless people. * An understanding of legislation, policy, practice and current thinking around the delivery of support and housing needs of rough sleepers. * Knowledge of welfare benefits both nationally and local discretionary benefits and eligibility. * In-depth knowledge of the factors that contribute to individuals sleeping rough. * Experience and knowledge of complex needs including drug, alcohol and substance misuse, mental and physical health needs; the impact these needs have on rough sleepers and how to support them away from the streets. * Experience of managing personal and corporate risk when lone working with rough sleepers or other excluded individuals who have a range of complex support needs. * An ability to work effectively with stakeholders. * Proactively seeks opportunities for service improvement and solution finding.
