WHAT IS THE OPPORTUNITY?

Aecon Nuclear provides a full spectrum of Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) services, in addition to maintenance and manufacturing services tailored to meet the demanding requirements of the nuclear power industry. Aecon Nuclear’ s portfolio of building, refurbishing, maintaining, and decommissioning nuclear power facilities reflects a record of project success that ranges from small but essential maintenance contracts, to major construction endeavors. Aecon supports clients with expert project management to the most exacting standards.
Working with our joint venture partner Atkins Realis, Aecon Nuclear has been awarded the definition phase contract with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) to assist in planning the Pickering Retube, Feeder and Boiler replacement (RFBR) project. This project involves the refurbishment of four reactors and replacement of the forty eight steam generators at the Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.
The Onboarding and Training Support Team is looking for the ideal candidate to join the team as an Onboarding Instructor. The Onboarding Instructor is responsible for the provision of training programs required for project onboarding and site access qualifications of all trade staff supporting CanAtom projects at the Darlington and Pickering Nuclear Generating Station.

Responsibilities

WHAT YOU’LL DO HERE:

  • Responsible for training project employees on a variety of Environmental Health and Safety related programs such as Work at Heights, Supervisor Training, First Aid, Elevating
  • Work Platform, Forklift Operation, etc.
  • Collaborates across the local organization and network to gather expectations, share best practices, and coordinate program requirements.
  • Create an environment conducive to learning for employees.
  • Provide timely feedback to management and supervisors relating to employee competency.
  • Establish measurable goals and levels of competency of each trainee.
  • Provide trainees with timely and relevant feedback, both positive and constructive.
  • Document all training in accordance with established legislative standards and project governance.
  • Promote a safety culture that supports continuous improvement in the EHS management system through active communication, participation and development of skills.
  • Fosters a positive safety culture in which trainees’ value safety.

WHAT YOU’LL DO HERE:

  • A working knowledge of Provincial OHS Legislation.
  • Extensive knowledge of BTU trades and work practices.
  • Demonstrated Leadership abilities with strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Health and Safety and training/facilitating within the construction industry.
  • Relevant Post-Secondary education or equivalent experience in the Health and Safety field.
  • A designation such as NCSO would be considered an asset.
  • Train the Trainer Qualifications in programs such as Work at Heights, Liftow, Red Cross, etc.
  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook).
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively in teams.
  • Ability to plan, manage, and prioritize multiple, concurrent assignments and tasks.
  • Comfortable working in a rapidly changing environment.
  • Strong sense of urgency and accountability.
  • Knowledge of project management concepts.
  • Strong decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational skills; attention to detail.
  • Willingness to contribute toward, and assist colleagues with projects across functional areas and outside of primary responsibilities to contribute toward the overall team’s success.
