Overview Performs accurate and timely follow-up of cancer registry cases, case finding, and cancer conferences duties to maintain compliance with American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer Standards. Cancer Conference duties include monitoring for multidisciplinary participation, compliance with required elements of discussion, and developing and presenting the annual Cancer Conference Coordinator Report to the Cancer Committee. Performs assigned Cancer Committee duties and fulfills Coordinator roles as assigned to meet ACS CoC Standards. Qualifications Education required: Meets the requirements for one of the 3 paths to becoming a CTR listed below: Path 1: Earn an Associate Degree in Cancer Registry Management. Complete a Clinical Practicum at a Cancer Registry. Pass the Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) Exam. Maintain the CTR Credential with Continued Education Courses. Path 2: Complete 60-Hours of College-Level Courses. Earn a Certificate in Cancer Registry Management. Complete a Clinical Practicum at a Cancer Registry. Pass a Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) Exam. Maintain the CTR Credential with Continued Education Courses. Path 3: Earn an Associate Degree or complete 60-Hours of College-Level Courses, including six College Credit Hours in Human Anatomy and Human Physiology. Complete 1 year (1950 hours) of Cancer Registry Experience. Pass the Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) Exam. Maintain the CTR Credential with Continued Education Courses. License, certification and/or registration: Certified Tumor Registrar (CTR) Certification eligible required Experience: Previous Cancer Registry experience required or in lieu of experience, completion of the NCRA-AHIMA Cancer Registry Management Certificate Program (https://www.ahima.org/education-events/education-by-product/) Additional skills/abilities: In depth knowledge of human anatomy, medical terminology and statistics. Ability to understand, analyze and interpret medical, surgical, forensic, and treatment information and terminology. Ability to act or judge on ones own and with discretion. Must have excellent communication skills with the ability to work in a fast paced environment requiring prioritizing and changing tasks frequently and quickly. Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports. Ability to develop and follow research methodology and protocol. Internet skills, strong computer and word processing data entry skills. Ability to use computer, word processing and spreadsheet software, FAX and copy machine. Ability to work effectively within role independently and with other team members Keep abreast of changes in reference materials and current literature relative to cancer registry. Attends continuing education programs, maintaining up-to-date reference manuals and demonstrating a working knowledge of new and revised procedures for compliance with accrediting agencies and the state cancer registry.
