REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & EDUCATION

  • MD and/or PhD required.
  • Extensive experience and proven leadership in Medical Affairs required.
  • At least 5 years of pharmaceutical industry experience required; cross-functional experience is a plus.
  • Proven track record of successful collaboration with cross-functional colleagues in a matrix team and with senior leaders.
  • Subject matter expertise and experience in Oncology therapeutic area and Pfizer Oncology medicines and pipeline assets required.
  • Strongly recommended: solid postgraduate medical experience in Oncology and/or Internal Medicine within a hospital setting.
  • Ability to analyze, define, and convey complex concepts and strategies to both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage non-traditional customers and maintain a proactive external focus.
  • Excellent strategic skills, including creativity and effectiveness in addressing major challenges while balancing short-term needs and long-term vision.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a team.
  • Ensures compliance with relevant pharmaceutical industry laws and regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to create and articulate strategies at the country level.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & EDUCATION

  • Knowledge of external environmental aspects of the Oncology business.
  • Experience in managing projects to completion.
  • Ability to discuss scientific aspects of Oncology product development and regulatory issues, as well as commercial considerations.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including scientific writing and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proven ability to influence and succeed through others and to build strong relationships with cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated strong work ethic and track record of delivering high-quality results within timelines.
  • Strategic thinking and alignment with a wide range of stakeholders, both regionally and cross-functionally.
  • Cross-functional leadership/management experience is a distinct advantage.

Responsibilities

POSITION PURPOSE

  • The Oncology Medical Lead will report to the Country Medical Director and will be an integral member of the Medical Leadership Team Italy and the Country Medical Council (CMC).
  • The Oncology Medical Lead holds full accountability for the development and execution of all Oncology Medical Plans and ensures their integration and representation within the Global Medical Plans
  • Partners with the Oncology Commercial Organization and serves as the single point of contact & accountability to ensure medical alignment on key strategies, deliverables, and communication in the country.
  • Acts as the country Oncology medical champion, ensuring scientifically robust communication with key internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represents Pfizer Oncology in key country and regional forums and meetings.
  • Serves as the primary point of contact for scientific questions with regulatory authorities in the country.
  • Advances scientific leadership and expands advocacy of Oncology products within the medical community.
  • Embraces patient centricity: understands patients’ key unmet needs, partners with patients to build local and global advocacy, and addresses patients’ educational needs.
  • Manages the Oncology medical budget to support and organize local medical initiatives and projects, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and efficient resource allocation.
  • The Oncology Medical Lead ensures strong support and effective collaboration with Clinical Operations, fostering alignment and synergy across functions to drive successful execution
  • Leads a local team of Medical Affairs Scientists and serves as a manager of managers, providing strategic direction, coaching, and performance oversight to senior medical leaders within the Oncology medical team. Ensures alignment across sub-teams and fosters leadership development to build a high-performing, future-ready medical organization.

PRIMARY DUTIES:

  • Accountable for delivery of the Medical Strategy for Oncology, including all generating activities in the country.
  • Collaborates directly with cross-functional teams to understand unmet medical needs and the medical environment, including HCP and patient perspectives, regulatory and market access dynamics, and integrates insights .
  • Serves as the key point of contact for subject matter queries from scientific societies and KOLs.
  • Oversees planning, tracking, and optimization of the Oncology medical budget, ensuring financial stewardship and support for impactful local projects and collaborations.
