  • Active listening skills and strong verbal communication skills, building positive relationships with pupils and understanding their needs.

  • Ability to monitor a pupil’s response to learning activities and modify or adapt the activities to achieve the intended learning outcomes.
  • Previous experience in supporting children of relevant age.

Responsibilities

ABOUT THE ROLE

The purpose of the role is to be responsible in assisting and support 16–24-year-old learners with special educational and general learning needs. Providing 1-1 support to suit learners need and provide general classroom support when needed.

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supporting Learners
  • To provide learning support for learners in class or in 1:1 situation.
  • To develop knowledge of the particular needs of the learners and seek advice from the class teacher.
  • To aid access to the full range of learning experiences both inside and outside the classroom and provide modified materials as required e.g., worksheets, games, visual prompt cards, scribe etc.
  • Support in an inclusive learning environment across the whole SOFEA environment.
  • Provide positive reinforcements to learners.
  • To attend in service training and meetings relevant to the post in order to keep up to date with developments in working with learners with special educational needs.
  • Build and maintain a relationship with the learners in your role as a key worker
  • Supporting the Teacher
  • To work as part of the team to ensure that the wellbeing and personal development of the learner enhances their learning opportunities and life skills.
  • Assist in the delivery of the individual learning programmes on a daily basis to promote learning, behaviour, and communication skills.
  • To provide regular feedback to the Teacher about any learner’s difficulties and progress.
  • Supporting the EHCP Lead
  • To work as part of the team to ensure that the wellbeing and personal development of the learner enhances their learning opportunities and life skills.
  • To attend planning meetings with the EHCP Lead to develop learning programmes and to assist in the delivery of the individual learning programmes on a daily basis to promote learning, behaviour, and communication skills.
  • To provide regular feedback to the EHCP Lead and, where necessary, relevant outside agencies about any learner’s difficulties and progress
  • To contribute to the learner’s annual review by writing a brief report and attending the meeting.
  • Supporting SOFEA
  • To participate in relevant professional development as deemed appropriate.
  • To understand and apply SOFEA’s policies on learning and behaviour, and the statutory guidelines relating to disability discrimination and special educational needs.
  • To maintain up to date and accurate records on SOFEA tracking systems such as impact tracker amongst others for the learners you are a key worker for and support other staff with their record keeping if needed
  • To maintain confidentiality and sensitivity to the learner’s needs but have regard to the safeguarding procedures of SOFEA.
  • To carry out duties as directed by the Teacher or Head Of Education.
  • Any other duties as and when required by the organisation.
