COURSE DESCRIPTION

Discover a generalist approach to working with families through a lens that highlights connection, collaboration, and systemic insight. Learn how to navigate the stages of family intervention—from engagement and assessment to intervention and termination—while contrasting individual approaches with a family systems perspective. Uncover how family dynamics, interactions, and structures shape behaviours and contribute to challenges that lead individuals to seek professional support. This learning builds a powerful foundation for practitioners to approach family work with empathy, structure, and effectiveness in diverse professional contexts.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Identify, design, and develop appropriate learning materials for technology-mediated learning including developing new content, curating available material, navigation layout, assessments, text and visual content, etc.;
  • Implement the principles of Universal Design for Learning during development of materials;
  • Maintain alignment of all teaching materials with the course learning outcomes;
  • Ensure all materials are AODA and WCAG 2.0 compliant and follow copyright law

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL MEET OR EXCEED THE FOLLOWING QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Minimum of five years of recent experience in social work;
  • Holds a Master’s degree (or higher) in Social Work; an additional undergraduate or graduate degree in Education is a significant asset;
  • Holds registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers;
  • At least 5 years of cumulative post-secondary teaching experience in a related field, with an emphasis on technology-enhanced teaching considered an asset;
  • Demonstrated experience in the course topic area;
  • High technical skill using all main functions of learning management systems, particularly D2L Brightspace is an asset;
  • Ability to effectively design and develop content to meet curricular needs for an online, asynchronous course delivery;
  • Demonstrated skill and good judgment in selection of appropriate teaching materials;
  • The ability to produce quality written documentation;
  • Excellent research and critical thinking skills;
  • Proven ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team and participate in consultative decision making;
  • The demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple deadlines;
  • The organizational skills to take a project from an initial idea through delivery, working under pressure, with minimal supervision.
