Our instructor model blends pre-recorded video lectures with active online support to create a dynamic and engaging learning experience.
Position Overview: VDCI is seeking an experienced construction professional to serve as a Subject Matter Expert (SME) and Online Instructor for a new self-paced, project-based course in Construction Materials. You’ll be responsible for designing the curriculum, developing hands-on labs, creating course assets, and recording instructional video content.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design Course Structure & Learning Outcomes - Develop a clear course outline focused on construction materials, including masonry & concrete, wood & engineered timber. metals, glass, plastics & composites, insulation, finishes & emerging materials.
  • Create Course Assets - Collaborate with our instructional design team to produce course visuals (diagrams, cutaways, infographics, demos, collect images and assemble slide presentations)
  • Record Instructional Videos - Deliver clear, engaging video lessons that guide students in connecting blueprint details to the tangible materials and components used in the built structure. (Recording support provided.)
  • Develop Student Assessments – Create quizzes, practical exercises, and/or final projects that test students’ ability to identify, select, and apply construction materials in real-world scenarios.
  • Review & Update Content – Periodically review course materials to ensure accuracy, relevance, and alignment with new materials, technologies, and code changes.

Qualifications:

  • Blueprint Interpretation – Ability to translate blueprint symbols and specifications into the real-world materials they represent.
  • Technical Knowledge – Deep understanding of multiple material categories (masonry, concrete, wood, metals, glass, plastics, insulation) and their applications.
  • Professional Experience – Minimum 5 years in construction, architecture, or engineering, with direct hands-on experience specifying, testing, or installing construction materials.
  • Communication Skills – Proven ability to explain complex concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • On-Camera Presence – Comfortable recording engaging, instructor-led video lessons in a professional or home studio environment.
  • Instructional Experience – Previous teaching, training, or course development for adult learners, preferably in an online environment.

Preferred Skills:

  • Education – Bachelor’s degree or higher in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture, or related field.
  • Certifications – LEED AP, ACI, CSI CDT, PMP, or other industry credentials.
  • Software Skills – Familiarity with BIM/CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, SketchUp) for visualizing and explaining materials.

Pay: $30.00 - $60.00 per hour
