Position Overview The Permit Technician is responsible for processing, submitting, tracking, and managing City and County permit applications on behalf of contractors and builders throughout California. This role ensures that permit requests are prepared correctly, submitted on time, and followed through until final approval and issuance. Permit Technicians work in an office or remote setting depending on company needs and focus on document processing, jurisdiction coordination, and permit tracking rather than in-person field visits. Primary Responsibilities Prepare, submit, and track permit applications for City and County jurisdictions Review permit packets to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with jurisdictional requirements Communicate with building departments to resolve corrections, missing information, or clarifications Track permit status, approvals, corrections, and expiration dates Upload and organize permit documents, plans, and approvals in company systems Collect and verify permit fees and supporting documentation Serve as the primary contact for contractors, internal teams, and jurisdictions regarding permit status Maintain organized digital records of all permits, applications, and correspondence Stay current on California permitting rules, zoning requirements, and jurisdictional processes Coordinate with field staff, engineers, and inspectors to ensure permits are issued correctly Identify and recommend process improvements to increase permit turnaround times Provide high-level customer service and support to builders and internal stakeholders Assist other departments and cross-train as needed Requirements Reliable computer, phone, and internet access Ability to manage multiple permit applications simultaneously Strong written and verbal communication skills High attention to detail and accuracy Ability to work independently in a remote or office environment Professional demeanor when communicating with city and county agencies Strong organization and documentation skills Education & Experience High school diploma or equivalent Experience in permitting, construction administration, municipal services, or similar roles preferred Knowledge of California building permits, zoning, or compliance is a plus Experience with document processing, customer service, or administrative work highly valued Benefits: 401(k) 401(k) matching Dental insurance Employee assistance program Health insurance Health savings account Life insurance Paid time off Referral program Tuition reimbursement Vision insurance
