We are tasked with staffing The Martinsburg VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV with Onsite Optician. There are additional locations including: Martinsburg VAMC 510 Butler Ave, Martinsburg, WV 25405 Cumberland CBOC 200 Glen Street, Cumberland, MD 25102 Hagerstown CBOC Hub Plaza Bldg., 1101 Opal Court, Hagerstown, MD 21742 Winchester CBOC 100 Dawson Dr, Winchester, VA 22602 Fort Detrick CBOC Fort Detrick Army Garrison, 1433 Porter Street, Frederick, MD 21702 Petersburg CBOC 15 Grant Street, Petersburg, WV 26847 Franklin CBOC 91 Pine Street, Franklin, WV 26807 Harrisonburg CBOC 1755 South High Street, Harrisonburg, VA 22801 Working Hours: Monday through Friday from 8:00 am until 4:30 pm, with the exception of authorized Federal Holidays Opticians shall fill the medically necessary eyeglass prescription as written by the privileged VA eye care provider. Opticians shall ensure medical justification is within the prescription for any add-ons or shall communicate with the privileged VA eye care provider for updates. The Optician shall not alter the Veterans’ prescription Opticians shall be responsible for helping Veteran beneficiaries by greeting them, determining lifestyle needs for prescription eyewear, assisting with frame selection and making recommendations. The contractor shall perform measurements for pupillary distances, segment heights, base curves and review final frame selection choice with Veteran beneficiary. In addition, answer questions relating to Veteran beneficiary’s eyeglasses and eyeglass orders. Opticians must be able to verify eyeglass prescription specifications provided by the VAMC Optometry or Ophthalmology clinics. Opticians shall also be responsible for minor repairs and adjustments (i.e. replacing a missing screw, replacing nose pads, repairing broken frames, frame adjustments etc.) and shall have an adequate stock of spare parts to perform such minor repairs. Optician’s particular emphasis is placed in the provision of timely, high quality services and interacting appropriately, professionally, and productively with VA patients and staff members at all levels of organization. Requirements at least a GED at least 3 years of relevant experience any relevant certification is preferred
Responsibilities
The Optician will be responsible for accurately filling medically necessary eyeglass prescriptions written by VA providers, ensuring proper medical justification, and assisting Veteran beneficiaries with frame selection based on lifestyle needs. Duties also include performing necessary measurements, answering patient questions, and performing minor repairs and adjustments to eyeglasses.
