Summary of Responsibilities: The Onsite Safety Technician / Safety Specialist supports Durr Heavy Construction’s industrial and utility construction projects and is predominantly site-based at client substation facilities in Lockport, Louisiana. This role is responsible for monitoring, enforcing, and continuously improving jobsite safety performance by conducting audits, attending site meetings, collaborating with jobsite leadership, and ensuring compliance with contractors, client, and regulatory safety requirements. The primary responsibility of this position is to actively mitigate operational, safety, and environmental risks while promoting a proactive, positive safety culture aligned with Durr’s core values. The Take Charge Onsite Safety Tech / Specialist: Promotes Safety Leadership Serves as a visible and consistent driving force behind Durr Heavy Construction’s safety culture on all assigned jobsites. Encourages safety ownership at all levels of field leadership and craft personnel. Helps foster an environment where safety is a shared responsibility across the project team. Maintains Safety Documentation Continuously monitors and maintains all safety-related documentation, reports, logs, and corrective action records. Ensures safety documentation remains accurate, current, and compliant with company, client, and regulatory standards. Performs Proactive Auditing & Hazard Recognition Conducts routine and unannounced jobsite safety audits to identify hazards and compliance gaps. Engages jobsite leadership during audits to establish effective communication and immediate corrective action plans. Monitors environmental, operational, and behavioral safety risks across multiple project areas. Leads & Facilitates Safety Training Ensures employees remain current with required safety training and certifications. Delivers safety training directly or coordinates training resources as needed. Identifies upcoming training needs and proactively implements required or recommended programs. Incident Investigation & Reporting Leads or supports accident and incident investigations using established investigative procedures. Performs root cause analysis and prepares detailed reports for submission to the Corporate Safety Director. Coordinates corrective actions with jobsite leadership to prevent recurrence. Project Safety Leadership Provides safety coaching, guidance, and mentorship to field employees and supervisors. Assists jobsite leadership in maintaining safe, efficient, and compliant operations. Actively participates in site meetings and safety planning discussions. Relationships & Partnerships Builds and maintains strong working relationships with clients, subcontractors, and Durr personnel. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Prior experience in a role where safety was a primary responsibility is strongly preferred. Strong organizational skills, time management, professionalism, and ability to work collaboratively. High emotional intelligence with a selfless, team-first mindset. Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma required; some college preferred. 4 years of experience in landfill construction, waste disposal, or solid waste management. 2 years of supervisory or management experience required. 3–5 years of experience in construction safety or occupational safety & health preferred. OSHA 30-Hour Construction (Required / Preferred) CSST / NCCER (Preferred) COSS (Preferred) OSHA 510 and/or OSHA 511 (Preferred) Physical Demands / Work Conditions: Regularly required to talk, hear, stand, walk, sit, and use hands for computer or equipment operation. Occasionally required to lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work indoors and outdoors, sometimes in loud environments and around heavy equipment.
