Workforce Inc. is seeking skilled Geotechnicians to join an exciting project! In this role, you will have the opportunity to contribute to the development and maintenance of the work site by proactively identifying and mitigating ground control-related hazards through geotechnical data collection, analysis, design, and monitoring.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum of a Mine Technician or Mine Technologist Diploma or equivalent
  • Minimum of 1 year experience working in rock mechanics or at an open pit mining operation.
  • Familiarity with Deswik and radar monitoring sytem would be considered an asset (not required)
  • Must be a good problem solver with advanced communication skills
  • Must be physically fit and able to work in all weather conditions
  • Must be able to work in a team environment
  • Strong communication and people skills
  • Self motivated
  • Must hold a valid driver’s licence and provide own transportation to and from the work site

Responsibilities
  • Collect basic geotechnical data such as mapping, core logging to support geotechnical designs.
  • Be familiar with the site Ground Control Management Plan and ensure that operations are adhering to the guidance and requirements outlined in it.
  • Perform inspections of active open pit and surface waste and geotechnical facilities to ensure adherence to geotechnical design and Ground Control Management Plan as well as confirm that the ground control is appropriate for the ground conditions and excavation geometries.
  • Performs installation of geotechnical instrumentations and data management
  • Perform quality control audits of ground support materials and installations, including assessments such as collection of grout samples, etc.
  • Prepare rehabilitation prints using Deswik, outlining site-specific ground control battery limits based on geotechnical recommendations.
  • Recommend corrective actions to be taken in areas where potential ground stability issues are observed or are reported in the ground control logbook.
  • Ensure ground control installation activities are coordinated with planners and operational personnel to minimize conflicts.
  • Review engineering prints to ensure geotechnical risk/hazards are identified and ground support outlined is appropriate for the local ground conditions.
  • Provide regular updates on geotechnical items to Senior Geotechnical Engineer.
  • Participate in other geotechnical-related tasks outlined by the Senior Geotechnical Engineer
