QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Valid Florida or Georgia Driver’s License, or the ability to obtain prior to hire.
Responsibilities
  • Academic Advising: Advise pathway students applying to health professional schools (e.g., medicine, physician assistant, etc.), review program primary application materials, advise on applicants’ readiness and competitiveness, and direct students to appropriate resources as needed.
  • Tutoring: Oversee Undergraduate SSTRIDE tutoring programs that provide academic support for STEM and pre-health prerequisite coursework.
  • Recruitment: Conduct annual recruitment, interview, and selection of SSTRIDE Connect, USSTRIDE, and MAPS students in coordination with pathway program staff. Annual recruitment goals to be directed by budget.
  • Team Management and Supervision: Manage hiring for all staff, including OPS, in cooperation with IMS Division administration, College of Medicine (COM) administrative services, and University Human Resources offices. Comply with all university hiring policies and procedures. Provide oversight of all pre-college pathway programs (middle and high school in-school programs and after-school tutorial programs) locally, in Gadsden and Okaloosa Counties, in Immokalee and Sarasota, and additional programs as they are developed. Requires travel, especially in Florida, to expand pathway education efforts.
  • Collaboration with other programs at COM, FSU, and the Community: Serve as a liaison for the FSU COM with university departments, undergraduate institutions, state colleges, secondary schools, rural communities and counties, in the state of Florida for pathway education efforts.
  • Research: Develop and implement innovative programs and initiatives that enhance undergraduate and post-baccalaureate pathway students’ applications to professional schools, with a focus on achieving measurable improvements in application success rates.
  • Financial Oversight: Oversee budgeting and financial responsibilities for the Pathway Program’s operations, ensuring financial alignment with strategic goals and priorities.
  • Committee Engagement: Actively participate in and contribute to key committees, including the Bridge, MD, and PA Admissions Committees. Serve on community and state-level advisory bodies as appropriate, including the Florida Department of Health’s Physician Workforce Advisory Council, for which appointments are made by DOH upon recommendation and are subject to term limits.
  • Grant Funding: Regularly seek grant funded opportunities to support educational pathway programs. Work collaboratively with COM and campus partners to design and write competitive applications for funding.
