JOB SUMMARY

The Department of Communication invites applications for a full-time (open rank) Teaching Professor in digital communication to start in January 2026, rank will depend on the finalist’s qualifications and experience. Expertise is required in the areas of strategic digital communication, digital publishing, and social media management. Those with additional teaching specialties in the fields of social media/big data analytics, data visualization and/or in the use of artificial intelligence in media and communication professions are especially encouraged to apply. Teaching duties are at the undergraduate and graduate level and include Strategic Social Media Communication & Management; Digital Publishing; Media Analytics/Data Visualization; Generative AI in Communication Professions, next to more general courses the department offers.
The Department of Communication has an Undergraduate program in Communication, a Professional Master program in Strategic and Digital Communication and a Master and Ph.D. program in Communication, Culture and Media. Drexel follows the quarter system and students learn through hands-on experiences gained in and outside of the classroom. With faculty members who are equally passionate about teaching - face-to-face and online - and about cutting-edge research, the department is a leader in communication education, guiding the design of new curricular approaches to enhance student learning. The curriculum offers focus and flexibility, allowing students to define their path to success. The Department develops research in the areas of Public Relations, Journalism, Civil Society and the Political, Popular Communication and Consumer Culture, and Information and Communication Technology. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree in Communication, Media Studies or related field
  • Minimum of 3 years of teaching experience.
  • Experience teaching Undergraduate and Graduate students in both face-to-face and online modalities.
  • Commitment to excellence in teaching.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Doctoral degree in Communication, Media Studies or related field.
  • 7 years of relevant professional experience.
  • Social media/big data analytical skills
  • Connections to key industry leaders
  • Experience teaching and working with a diverse student population.
Responsibilities
  • Teaching 4-4-4 three-credit courses both face-to-face and remote/online in the undergraduate and graduate communication programs and as part of service courses offered within the department.
  • Take part in continued pedagogical development with an eye on excellence in teaching effectiveness, including evidence of pedagogical innovation or experimentation.
  • Fostering an inclusive learning community through engagement in relevant activities promoting equity, inclusion, and diversity.
  • Maintain and expand the Department’s relationships with the professional world of strategic and digital communication, including public relations.
  • Staying up to date on research and professional practices in the areas outlined above and incorporate these into your teaching.
  • Be an active and engaged member of the Department.
  • Provide service to the Department, College and University.
