Description The Operating Room Manager is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the operating room within an ambulatory surgery center (ASC). This role ensures the efficient and safe operation of the surgical environment, focusing on patient care, staff management, regulatory compliance, and continuous quality improvement. FLSA STATUS: Exempt SUPERVISION EXERCISED: Supervises operating room staff to include nurses, surgical technicians, OR attendants ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Staff Management: Recruit, train, and supervise operating room staff, including nurses, surgical technicians, and OR attendants. Conduct performance evaluations and provide ongoing education and training. Schedule staff to ensure adequate coverage for all surgical procedures. Operational Oversight: Manage the daily operations of the operating room, ensuring efficiency and adherence to protocols. Develop and implement policies and procedures to enhance patient care and safety. Monitor and optimize surgical scheduling and patient flow. Quality Assurance: Serve as the QAPI Coordinator with quarterly meeting attendance. Implement quality improvement initiatives and monitor compliance with clinical standards, in collaboration with the Medical Director. Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure best practices are followed. Address and resolve any issues related to patient safety or staff performance. Regulatory Compliance: Ensure the operating room complies with all local, state, and federal regulations, including OSHA and CMS standards. Maintain AAAHC accreditation by preparing for inspections and audits. Stay updated on industry trends and changes in regulations. Budget Management: Assist in the development and management of the operating room budget. Collaborate with Materials Manager/OR Coordinator to assist with monitoring supply inventory and manage procurement processes to ensure cost-effectiveness. Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other medical staff to facilitate effective communication and teamwork. Liaise with administrative staff to ensure smooth operations and patient care coordination. Patient Care: Ensure a patient-centered approach to care, addressing concerns and feedback promptly. CNOR required within six months of hire. BLS, ACLS, and PALS certifications. Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a surgical setting, with supervisory experience preferred. Strong knowledge of surgical procedures, equipment, and sterile techniques. Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. Proficient in using electronic medical record (EMR) systems and other healthcare technology. WORKING CONDITIONS: The role may require standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of heavy materials. The operating room environment can be fast-paced and requires the ability to respond quickly to emergencies.
