Description Job Title: Surgical Technician Department: OR & Recovery Reports To: Director of Surgical Services FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Hours: 20/week (Take Call and live within 30 minutes of the Hospital) Shift: Days, Monday to Friday, 11 a.m. - 7 p.m., with a rotating weekend on-call schedule Here at Franklin County Medical Center, we have a vision: be the premier healthcare provider and facility of choice for the community. WHAT YOU CAN DO FOR FCMC Our Surgical Technicians help ensure the success of our surgeries by preparing for and assisting in a wide variety of surgical procedures in multiple specialties. More specifically, the Surgical Technicians’ responsibilities include: Preparing the surgical patient, including positioning, prepping, and draping Assisting with instruments, sponges, sutures, drains, and dressings Performing scrub duties including table set up, instrumentation, first assisting, and counting of instruments before and after operation Assisting the Operating Room RN in providing patient care pre-operatively, intra-operatively, and post-operatively Preparing specimens as needed Observing incisions for bleeding and anticipating the need to control bleeding Assisting with lifting and transporting of patients Requirements Qualifications: High school diploma or GED Current BLS Excellent verbal communication skills in English Take Call and live within 30 minutes of the Hospital. ONE OF THE FOLLOWING: Meets the requirements for certification (CST) by the Association of Surgical Technologists OR For current CNAs, LPNs, or RNs willing to complete six months of on-the-job training with in-house education to gain a Surgical Technologist (ST). Essential Job Functions: Regular and predictable attendance is required Regularly required to stand for long periods of time; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or twist Frequently required to perform moderate to complex manipulative tasks Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and peripheral vision Frequently able to move/push/pull up to 50 pounds and lift and carry up to 35 pounds Must have good hearing Must comply with HIPAA and patient privacy Must wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when required in accordance with facility standards Work Environment: FCMC operates 24 hours per day each day of the year: operational needs of departments may require that you be available to work all shifts, weekends, and holidays to meet the needs of the patients Potential exposure to blood, body tissue and fluids, contagious diseases, and hazardous waste Occasional exposure to bodily injury, loud or unpleasant noise, unpleasant odor, and emotional or physical stress May be required to work day or night in a confined environment or variation of different temperatures The Location: Located in southeast Idaho, Franklin County is surrounded by the beautiful Rocky Mountains, giving ample opportunity for outdoor recreation.
