Maplesoft Group is currently seeking an Operational Risk Analyst for our client.
Tasks and Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

Risk and Control Assessments

  • Support Manager in gathering information from subject matter experts to identify and assess the risks & control within entities, business units and corporate functions across the group of companies.
  • Document risk assessments and insights for Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) reporting.
  • Track, monitor and report on action plans resulting from RCAs through Risk Management (GRC) Tool

Change Management of Risk and Control Assessments

  • Monitor organizational change and update operational risk assessments and related mitigating controls when there is a significant change (e.g. department restructure, new product, new market, acquisition).
  • Identify, track and monitor risk mitigation strategies.

(KRIs) KRI Data Collection

  • Support Manager in collection and recording of data on key operational risk metrics from across the group of companies.

KRI Analysis

  • Assess the completeness and accuracy of the reported metric data.
  • Obtain and document management action plans for remediating out of tolerance operational risk metrics.
  • Provide recommendations for updates and changes to ORM KRIs and thresholds

KRI Reporting

  • Prepare KRI data for reporting in Operational Risk Management (ORM) dashboards and reports.

Loss Event Data Collection

  • Collect and record data on operational risk incidents (i.e. loss events), including information related to reputational damage, opportunity loss and near misses.

Loss Event Analysis

  • Ensure the proper classification of loss events using the company’s taxonomy
  • Assess the completeness and accuracy of the reported loss event data.
  • Analyze loss events and assist in the identification of root causes.
  • Obtain and document management action plans for remediating any process or control weaknesses, as identified within the root cause analysis.

Loss Event Reporting

  • Prepare loss event data for reporting in ORM dashboards and reports.

  • Perform detailed walkthroughs of business processes, in accordance with the ORM program requirements – when applicable.

  • Identify and document the steps within each process, and assess the inherent operational risks, interdependencies as well as the design of controls.

  • Update the RCAs based on the findings from the business process analysis performed.

  • Support the Manager in performing assessments and challenging the operating effectiveness of key operational controls through the business unit self assessment / attestation process, in accordance with the ORM program requirements.

  • Identify and document any weaknesses within the controls challenged from the business unit self assessment process.
  • Obtain and document management action plans for remediating any control weaknesses identified within the attestation.
  • Prepare issues data for reporting in ORM dashboards and reports

Risk Management Reporting

  • Assist the ERM reporting function by providing data and operational risk-specific information (e.g. KRIs for operational risks).
  • Direct population of Op Risk Dashboard

Support for Enterprise Risk Management Team

  • Provide support for other team members and functions within the ERM team (ie. BCP team, etc)

Education

  • Post-secondary diploma in Business Administration, Commerce, Economics, Math or comparable

Industry Certifications/Professional Designations

  • A Risk Management designation (e.g. CRM, PRM) or certification is an asset.

Work Experience, Functional Knowledge, and Business Expertise

  • 2 to 4 years of experience in conducting risk and control assessments, business process analysis and controls monitoring.
  • Understanding of business processes and operations.
  • Experience in the insurance industry is an asset.
  • Understanding of risk management principles (e.g. COSO ERM Framework, ISO 3100 – Risk Management, OSFI Guideline E-21: Operational Risk Management).
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, SharePoint) and the ability to quickly learn new applications.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and inter-personal skills: ability to articulate risks and actions to remediate process and controls weaknesses.
  • Experience with data analysis and analytics
  • Strong facilitation and collaboration skills
