We are a tight knit team who value and appreciate one another and the skills and expertise we each bring to the table. We like to work smart, have some fun, get work done quickly but collaboratively, and within set timeframes. We like to be trusted for our individual contribution to the team and have good working relationships with our colleagues, clients, vendors and partners. We also believe in taking care of our people, and offering benefits that ensure their overall health and wellness.
About the Role
Are you equal parts number-cruncher and problem-solver? Do you love a good spreadsheet as much as a well-poured slab of concrete? At Van Bree Civil Works, we’re looking for a dynamic Operations & Finance Analyst who’s ready to help us build smarter, faster, and more efficiently, both in the field and on the balance sheet.
In this hybrid role, you’ll bridge the gap between operations and finance by transforming project data into insights, costs into strategy, and forecasts into confident decisions. If you’re driven by impact, curious by nature, and excited to work in a fast-paced, heavy civil construction environment, this role has your name written all over it.
What You’ll Be Doing (Besides dazzling us with conditional formulas)

Operations Analysis

  • Analyze operational data (labour, equipment, fuel, materials) to identify trends, variances, and opportunities for improvement.
  • Partner with Project Managers and Superintendents to assess productivity, job performance, and risk areas.
  • Support forecasting, project tracking, and resource planning to help teams deliver on time and on budget.
  • Build dashboards and reports that make complex data accessible and actionable for field and office teams.
  • Provide post-project analysis to assess performance vs. estimates and apply lessons learned to future work.

Finance & Cost Analysis

  • Assist with job costing, WIP reports, and budget vs. actuals for active projects.
  • Collaborate with Finance and Project teams to ensure accurate cost tracking, coding, and margin reporting.
  • Analyze overhead and indirect costs to support pricing models and internal chargebacks.
  • Play a key role in monthly close by validating project costs, reconciling data, and preparing variance reports.
  • Support development of financial forecasts, scenario modeling, and annual budgets with cross-functional input.
  • Identify opportunities for process automation and cost efficiencies across operations and finance workflows.

Tools & Reporting

  • Develop custom Excel models and use tools like Power BI for data visualization.
  • Maintain and enhance KPIs, dashboards, and other reporting systems to support real-time decision-making.
  • Help lead data cleanup and integrity efforts between operations and finance systems (Maestro ERP, Acumatica, Excel, etc.).

What You Bring:

  • A post-secondary degree or diploma in Business, Finance, Accounting, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 2–4 years of experience in an analytical or financial role — ideally in construction, manufacturing, or logistics.
  • Strong skills in Excel (pivot tables, formulas, modeling) and experience with accounting or ERP systems (Maestro ERP is a plus!).
  • Experience with cost tracking, variance analysis, and budgeting processes.
  • Comfort working cross-functionally — you’re just as happy talking numbers with finance as you are problem-solving with field crews.
  • An investigative mindset — you spot patterns, connect the dots, and offer up solutions before others even see the problem.
  • A team-first attitude and a sense of humour — we hustle hard but we laugh even harder.

What Success Looks Like:

  • You’ve helped catch a $50K cost overrun before it became a surprise.
  • Your dashboards are so useful, even the field crews ask for them.
  • Finance trusts your data. Ops trusts your instincts. Leadership trusts your insights.
  • You make numbers tell a story — one that helps us build smarter every day.
