Responsibilities

ROLE SUMMARY

To carry out maintenance and ensure safe operation of all Parish Council Property including buildings and open spaces. Ensure the safety of Play areas and work with maintenance contractors to ensure that property is maintained to a good standard, interacting positively with residents and the wider community. Work with the Council, other members of staff and the Parish Clerk in respect of new property related programmes and projects.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND TASKS

  1. Work with the Parish Clerk, the Operations Officer and the Operations Working Group to establish and maintain an appropriate open spaces and property strategy for the Council
  2. Conduct regular risk assessments in relation to the Council’s Assets and take action to appropriately minimise risks while maintaining adequate records.
  3. To regularly visit and inspect all areas of the Parish including Parish Council Buildings, Land and Assets, and take action to maintain standards of presentation and correct deficiencies in their material state. Provide the Parish Clerk and the Council with regular reports on the status of Council Property.
  4. Undertake regular health and safety checks, especially in connection with play equipment, taking defective equipment out of use and arranging repairs to ensure a safe play environment.
  5. Undertake minor repairs and maintenance of Council property, including basic grounds maintenance.
  6. Regularly monitor the condition of trees and arrange inspections in line with our Tree Management Policy. Liaise with appropriate professional arboriculturist to assess and schedule any necessary remedial works.
  7. To assist in maintaining the Parish noticeboards including notices of Council Meetings, statutory notices, current events and other useful information.
  8. To co-ordinate delivery of the Parish Newsletter, distributing copies to volunteers, maintaining and updating the distribution record.
  9. To liaise with residents and landowners in partnership with Wiltshire Council to ensure vegetation does not obstruct the Highway or Public Open Space.
  10. Provide support for the creation and successful staging of formal and informal events within the community.
  11. To attend training courses or seminars on maintenance and inspection as required by the Council, including achievement of the Register of Play Inspectors International (RPII) Certificate in Playground Inspection and LANTRA Awards Basic Tree Survey and Inspection.
  12. To carry out other appropriate duties as required by the Clerk or Parish Council.
