Description
  • You shall have a complete knowledge of all the pertinent governmental regulations, company policies and standards to which the company adheres and ensure that all rules and regulations are followed.
  • You shall ensure that the relevant operating instructions, manuals, regulatory publications, decompression and treatment tables (either paper or electronic copies) are available at the dive site and are maintained to reflect current changes and/or developments. They include but are not limited to:
  • The Company’s Diving Manual present at the work site.
  • A copy of the SS:511 Commercial Diving Operations.
  • A copy of the Company MSs, SWPs & RAs for all respective tasks.
  • A copy of the Emergency Response plan and Contact list
  • Brief all divers on the operational & contingency plans and procedures to be followed during the diving operation.
  • Maintain safety of dive team and ensure that the diving operation is carried out from dive site equipped to deal with emergencies as per diving operation manual.
  • Oversee diving operations to ensure that their execution complies with the legal requirements of HSE, SS511 & IMCA (International Marine Contractors Association) and diving systems management of the company.
  • Ensure that the diving equipment is adequate and in good operating condition.
  • Review all diver and tender Personal Dive Equipment (PDE) upon arrival at the worksite. Under no circumstances will any PDE be used for diving operations if the inspection and maintenance records are not established to be correct.
  • Ensure, prior to commencing a diving operation,that additional parties directly involved in the diving operation,masters of vessels, harbour masters, managers of civil engineering sites, inland waterways, and all persons responsible for anything that affects the diving operation are advised that diving operations are to be undertaken.
  • Ensure that the operations are conducted from a suitable location.
  • Develop and/or implement emergency/contingency procedures.
  • Ensure a two‐way communication system is available at the dive location to obtain emergency assistance.
  • Perform a Job Hazard Analysis for all tasks undertaken.
  • Ensure sufficient breathing air, proper equipment and supplies are available for safe and timely completion of the job task.
  • Ensure two‐way communication between the diver, the dive station and any equipment operators that may affect the dive.
  • Ensure that the diving equipment designated for use is:
  • Suitable for the planned diving operation.
  • Sufficient to regulatory requirements for the diving mode used.
  • Inspected prior to each dive and in good working order
  • Assign the duties of all members of the dive team and personally direct them throughout the diving operation.
  • Personally verify that all personnel on the dive team are qualified and physically able to perform tasks assigned.
  • Assess the physical condition of the divers prior to each dive to determine if any physical impairment is present which would be detrimental to their health and safety in the water or under hyperbaric conditions.
  • Ensure the detailed briefing of the diving team and support personnel including:
  • Tasks to be undertaken
  • Unusual hazards or environmental conditions
  • Maintain a depth, bottom time, and breathing mix profile (surface dive sheet) at the dive location for each diver during the dive.
  • Ensure that each diver is continuously tended while in the water and decompression chamber.
  • Ensure that when diving in the mud or sand (on bottom) the diver’s pneumo hose is not allowed to fill with mud or sand.
  • Ensure the dive is terminated when:
  • The diver requests termination
  • The diver fails to respond to communication or communication is lost between the diver and dive team members at the dive location
  • The diver begins to use his diver‐carried reserve breathing gas supply
  • Weather or site conditions are degrading to the extent that diver safety may be compromised.
  • Ensure after every dive:

The physical condition and wellbeing of the diver is checked by visual observation and verbal questioning.

  • The diver is instructed to report any physical problems or symptoms of decompression sickness or arterial gas embolism.
  • The diver is advised of the location of the nearest operating decompression chamber.
  • Notify the Company Top Management as soon as possible after the occurrence of any incident including diving incidents, any sign or symptom of decompression illness, AGE, omitted decompression or any deviation from the scheduled decompression, however minor.
  • Maintain and submit reports required by the company and relevant governmental regulations concerning diving operations and equipment maintenance, testing or repair.
  • View and ensure accuracy of the diver personal logbook and affix signature to properly record activities.
  • Maintain certification in First Aid, AED, O2 admin and CPR.
  • Plan the mobilization of diving equipment & personnel by conferring with relevant parties.
  • To stand in as Dive Supervisor or Diver as and when required.
  • Ensure proper planning of any type of Diving operation.
  • Prepare and Submit final reports to client or office.
  • Keep Management well informed on the job planning.
