We are looking for a dynamic HR professional to lead and coordinate key HR activities within our Postal Operations department, focusing on sickness absence management, employee wellbeing, recruitment, and employee relations.
This role ensures compliance with company policies, legal standards, and best practices, while creating new approaches and driving initiatives to improve Postal Operations attendance, engagement, and operational effectiveness. Working with the key operations management team to create a great place to work for all employees and in support of budget and other targets being met.

SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERTISE
- Ideally possess a CIPD qualification and have at least 5 years+ generalist HR experience, with a strong focus on operational HR policy management.
- Strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and manage interpersonal relationships at all levels.
- Be able to work with own initiative and have the ability to offer new ideas
- Strong teamworking skills and a collaborative approach to learning.
- Organisational and planning skills to manage time and meet deadlines and objectives as well as the ability to work competently under pressure
- Ability to coordinate and interpret data providing insight and recommendations for action
- Proactive, enthusiastic and innovative approach to work.

Responsibilities:
- Lead the coordination and management and application of all operational sickness absence processes, ensuring compliance with company policies and legal requirements.
- Provide advice and guidance to line managers on managing both short-term and long-term sickness absences.
- Support the return-to-work process, including conducting return-to-work interviews and making recommendations for adjustments as required.
- Manage casework for employees on long-term sickness leave, working closely with Occupational Health and external providers where necessary.
- Ensure proper documentation is maintained for all sickness absences, in line with company policies and data protection regulations.
- Provide analysis, and reporting of sickness absence data to identify trends, highlighting key metrics, patterns, and areas for improvement and action.
- Support the development and implement initiatives based on data insights to improve employee attendance and reduce absenteeism.
- Support management and employees when employee relations issues arise with efficient problem-solving.
- Oversee employment law and provide advice and support to assure compliance.
- Lead the recruiting of all new operational employees, including the development of job descriptions, preparing advertisements, short-listing and interviewing appropriate candidates.
- Plan onboarding strategies and perform new employees’ induction to ensure exceptional first-days, weeks and months experience, leading to retention of engaged staff.
- Conduct and analyse exit interviews and make actionable recommendations based on data.
- Act as the Group ‘Wellbeing’ contact and promote and support employee wellbeing initiatives to reduce sickness absence and encourage a healthy workforce.
- Identify policy improvement opportunities relating to employee terms and conditions of employment to ensure that Group complies with legal requirements and best practice.
- Develop succession plans, with line managers, which consider immediate and long-term staff requirements. Advise and support line managers with all employee relations matters.
- Advise on pay, benefits and all other employment related issues.
- Advise and note take at disciplinary and grievance hearings.
- Support the Head of HR with Group projects to enable the business to deliver upon its Strategic Business Plan.
- Undertake reasonable requests from managers in line with the range and scope of the post.
