Position Overview
ABC Recycling is seeking an Operations Manager who will be responsible for the day-to-day operations of our metal recycling facility in Terrace, BC. The job holder will provide daily directions and leadership to the yard crew to achieve safety, quality, productivity and cost objectives. This position also ensures compliance to all company policies and procedures.
Responsibilities
- Works with General Manager to ensure equipment is working in a safe and productive manner operating at an optimal level of efficiency.
- Carries out daily/weekly/monthly ferrous and non-ferrous metal production, processing and shipping plans as specified by the location’s General Manager.
- Oversees environmental, health & safety programs, and processes to create a safe environment for all employees, customers, and visitors.
- Communicates any unsafe conditions or accidents/injuries in a timely manner to the General Manager in order to facilitate prompt correction or reporting.
- Ensures proper grading, processing, and inspection of materials to meet quality standards for outbound shipments.
- Directs workers in day-to-day operations as laid out by General Manager to meet daily and monthly production targets.
- Follows annual budgets and operates the facility within them taking into account: equipment condition; environmental necessities; operational needs; ability to sustain business operations; business growth.
- Assists in the development of facility standards operating procedures.
- Oversees facility HR processes including training and performance management.
- Oversees and manages the scale, security and staffing functions.
- Oversees tasks/projects as required.
- Measures and reports service and operational data.
- Works with Scale Operators to ensure inbound customers and material is directed to right the locations throughout the facility and unloaded in an efficient and safe manner.
- Monitors loading and unloading times for customers and company contracted trucks to achieve excellence customer service and strive for optimal efficiency.
- Identifies and implements continuous improvement opportunities.
- Engages in strategic relationships with all supply chain partners.
Qualifications
- 2+ years previous experience in a heavy industrial setting.
- Experience managing a diverse team with varying skills, education and training levels.
- Experienced in implementing continuous improvement and quality assessment programs is an asset.
- Adept at using MS Office suite.
- Ability to develop and build relationships both internally and externally to the organization.
- Manufacturing or logistics background is an asset.
- Metal recycling background is also considered an asset.
- Previous knowledge in Health and Safety and DATS (HSE Management System) would be considered an asset.
