Description
The primary function of the Operations Manager will be to manage multi-product line manufacturing operations in order to meet or exceed safety, quality, delivery, cost and efficiency goals for the shift. They will develop shift supervisors and hourly employees through teaching, coaching, mentoring and leadership. This position will report directly to the Plant Manager. Manages the activities of assigned brand production operations, ensuring that a quality product is produced in a timely, efficient manner at the lowest possible cost Partners with commercial product line leaders and customer service Provide leadership and guidance to all production employees in respective product lines, overall coordination of, and problem-solving support for key value stream activities including planning, procurement, manufacturing engineering, maintenance, and quality to obtain optimum production, and utilization of machines and equipment daily Responsible for shift talent management, employee engagement and performance management - assessing current team members, identifying needs, selecting talent, and developing current employees to ensure “bench strength” and continued development and advancement of top talent within the organization; Provide coaching, motivation, and counseling to employees to encourage optimum performance and continued skill development. Ensure maintenance of records and reports on productivity, quality, and attendance across the shift. Manage schedules and manpower requirements to meet or exceed production plans. Monitor productivity to ensure that established shift quality and production levels are maintained or exceeded. Provides shipping oversight to ensure orders are shipped in an expedient manner at the lowest possible cost. Ensures a safe work environment for all employees, in collaboration with the EHS Manager; Drive and support behavioral based zero incident safety culture. Engage leaders in manufacturing LEAN initiatives including but not limited to operator standard work, 5S, pull systems, empowered work teams, and structured problem solving. Communicate company policies, procedures, and guidelines and ensure they are consistently practiced. Utilize key operating indicators for control of product cost, material usage, machine downtime, expenditure control and other shift functions. Prepare labor, material, and equipment usage reports Facilitate regular communication meetings with production team leads reflecting on problems, solutions, and challenges. Lead the culture change toward one of continuous improvement and contributing to becoming a learning organization. Emphasize the creation of continuous product flow, utilize pull systems where flow is not currently possible, and work to level the workload. Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution is required Minimum of five (5) years of operations experience in an industrial manufacturing environment Minimum of two (2) years of people management and/or supervision experience Legally authorized to work in the United States without company sponsorship now and within the future No relocation benefit is being offered for this position. Only candidates within a 50-mile radius of Reno, NV will be considered. Active Duty Military Service member candidates are exempt form the geographical area limitation. Three years or more of prior people management experience Three years or more experience supporting made-to-stock and made-to-order products in an industrial manufacturing environment Position Criteria: Ability to lead in an integrated team environment. Financial and business acumen. Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma concepts. Knowledge of manufacturing and engineering systems and processes. Good understanding and positive support of standard personnel policies and practices. Strong interpersonal communication skills: Demonstrated ability to build trust and credibility, lead by example, provide ongoing coaching and feedback, manage through conflict, and strive for continuous improvement. Strong managerial courage and ability to work through resistance and pushback to change. Strong drive for results is essential, with self-directed leadership, requiring minimal supervision & being proactive. Must be comfortable working in a fast paced, changing environment. Thorough understanding of Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement. strong interpersonal skills and cultural sensitivity; ability to use diplomacy and tact. proven ability to deal with conflict and diffuse difficult situations. Ability to maintain focus on long term business priorities while engaging in and supporting the day-to-day needs of the operations. Ability to effectively give and receive feedback to promote a culture of learning and development. Ability to drive change and successfully lead and implement significant change initiatives. Strong knowledge of materials management techniques to promote continuous flow of production synchronized with supply and customer demand. excellent communication skills both written and verbal across a wide audience. highly organized with strong attention to detail while also able to manage multiple priorities and effectively follow through.
