GFL Environmental is looking for an enthusiastic and experienced Operations Manager to join our dynamic team in Abbotsford, BC!
The Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing daily waste management operations to ensure safe, efficient, and environmentally compliant service delivery. This role manages staff, resources, and equipment to achieve operational targets, customer satisfaction, and regulatory standards while driving continuous improvement in safety, service, and cost management.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, operations management, environmental science, or related field (preferred).
  • 5+ years of operations management experience in waste management, transportation, logistics, or related industry.
  • Strong knowledge of waste management regulations, fleet management, and environmental compliance.
  • Proven leadership skills with the ability to motivate and develop diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Proficiency in route optimization software, fleet tracking systems, and MS Office Suite.
Responsibilities
  • Lead, manage, and support operations teams including supervisors, dispatchers, and drivers.
  • Oversee daily routing, collection, transfer, recycling, and disposal operations to ensure efficiency and compliance.
  • Monitor and enforce health, safety, and environmental regulations (OH&S, environmental permits, municipal and provincial/federal waste regulations).
  • Manage equipment utilization and facility operations to minimize downtime and costs.
  • Develop and monitor operational budgets, controlling expenses while maximizing productivity.
  • Implement and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for safety, customer service, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with municipal, commercial, and industrial customers.
  • Support employee training, performance management, and workforce development initiatives.
  • Drive process improvements, technology adoption, and sustainability initiatives.
  • Prepare operational reports and communicate results to senior leadership.
