About the Role
Reporting into senior management, the Operations Manager will be responsible for ensuring projects secured by our sales team are delivered efficiently, profitably and safely through the effective management of Lantrak’s subcontracted truck fleet.
You will lead our Allocations, Compliance and Project Coordination teams, working closely with Sales and HSEQ to ensure we have the right trucks, people and systems in place to meet project requirements.
This isn't a desk-only transport management position. We are looking for someone with strong industry knowledge who understands trucks, subcontractors, project delivery and the realities of moving construction materials.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, manage and develop the Queensland transport team across Allocations, Compliance and Project Coordination.
- Oversee daily transport operations and ensure resources are allocated effectively across projects.
- Work closely with Sales to forecast upcoming project requirements and ensure sufficient fleet capacity.
- Review daily bookings, job handovers and allocations to ensure projects can be delivered safely and commercially.
- Manage and develop Lantrak’s subcontractor fleet, including recruitment, onboarding, performance and ongoing engagement.
- Monitor truck utilisation and subcontractor earnings to ensure sustainable outcomes for both Lantrak and our contractors.
- Set and review subcontractor rates in line with market conditions, project requirements and commercial expectations.
- Drive accountability and performance across the transport team through effective use of Lantrak's operational and project management systems.
- Maintain strong knowledge of Chain of Responsibility, fatigue management, mass management and Heavy Vehicle National Law requirements.
- Work closely with HSEQ to maintain high standards of safety, compliance and customer satisfaction.
- Identify opportunities to continually improve transport performance, project delivery and fleet capability.
About You
We are looking for someone who has built their career in heavy vehicle transport, civil construction, earthmoving or construction material haulage and understands the operational demands of the industry.
Ideally, you will bring:
- Minimum 5 years' experience in material transport, ideally as a Transport Manager, Supervisor, Project Manager, Allocations Manager or similar.
- Demonstrated experience leading allocators and transport operations teams.
- Strong understanding of heavy vehicle configurations and their capabilities.
- Sound knowledge of GML, CML, HML and PBS vehicle requirements.
- Strong understanding of HVNL and Chain of Responsibility obligations.
- Experience managing subcontracted transport fleets will be highly regarded.
- Strong commercial understanding of truck operating costs, earnings, rates and fleet profitability.
- Experience coordinating transport requirements for civil construction or infrastructure projects.
- Knowledge of construction materials and material movement requirements.
- Strong leadership, communication and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-moving environment where priorities can change quickly.
- Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office and Excel.
- HR Heavy Vehicle Licence or above.
- Construction White Card.
- Relevant fatigue management / Chain of Responsibility qualifications will be highly regarded.
