JOB PURPOSE

The Operations Manager is fully accountable for all operational deliverables within their assigned region. This includes owning KPIs, leading efficient daily execution, managing resources, and building a high-performing team structure within a defined people budget. The Operations Manager plays a key role in promoting and enforcing safety practices, partnering with planning and dispatch teams, delivering operations-focused training, and contributing to continuous improvement by identifying opportunities for workflow enhancement. The role also fosters a culture of open communication, accountability, and ethical conduct across the operations team.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Regional Operations Performance: Own and manage all KPIs related to service performance, cost control, and operational efficiency. Use performance data to drive proactive decision-making and accountability.
  • Team Design & Management: Define the structure and roles required to meet operational goals within budget. Partner with recruiters for hiring and participate in final candidate selection. Lead performance reviews, ensure team members are meeting expectations, and develop individualized growth plans.
  • Owner-Operator Oversight: Provide second-level oversight of Owner-Operator performance. Planners are responsible for daily scheduling and frontline accountability; the Operations Manager ensures effective utilization, addresses escalated performance issues, and supports planning effectiveness. Collaborate with Compliance to ensure alignment with safety, service, and contractual standards.
  • Operations Coordination: Work closely with operations teams to ensure daily execution is efficient, cost-effective, and aligned with service expectations. Hold those teams accountable for performance delivery and resource optimization.
  • Lead, Manage, and Hold Accountable: Set clear expectations, provide structured coaching, and address performance concerns in a timely and professional manner. Foster a culture of ownership, open communication, respectful collaboration, and ethical conduct.
  • Safety Execution: Champion a safety-first mindset. Lead by example in applying safety protocols, driver policies, and equipment standards. Respond to incidents in coordination with the Compliance Manager and ensure corrective actions are implemented effectively.
  • Workflow Execution & Feedback: Execute company-approved workflows and SOPs. Monitor for inefficiencies and gaps in execution. Professionally recommend improvements or changes to the Director of Operations for evaluation and possible implementation.
  • Training & Development: Develop and implement onboarding and development plans for all direct reports. Provide operational training focused on efficiency, process compliance, and safety expectations. Ensure team members are fully equipped to fulfill their roles.
  • Stakeholder Collaboration & Audit Support: Collaborate with Dispatch, HR, Fleet, and Compliance teams to ensure operational alignment. Support audits and inspections by maintaining accurate and timely documentation where required. Assist with internal and external audit preparedness in partnership with Compliance.
