Description

ABOUT US

Universal Moulding Ltd. is a Canadian manufacturer of injection-molded thread protectors for the oil and gas industry. With 50+ years in business and customers across North America, we are growing and looking for an Operations Manager who can keep our daily operations running smoothly today, and grow into a larger leadership role tomorrow.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Diploma or degree in Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or related field preferred.
  • 3–7 years’ experience in operations, production coordination, or logistics (manufacturing an asset).
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort with spreadsheets (Google Sheets/Excel).
  • Excellent communicator with both shop floor and office staff.
  • Hands-on problem solver with leadership potential.
Responsibilities

THE ROLE

We’re seeking a hands-on Operations Manager to oversee production scheduling, purchasing, logistics, and customer support. In the short term, this is a very execution-focused role — you’ll be in the details of scheduling, shipments, and orders. Over time, you’ll take on more leadership, process improvement, and team management responsibilities, with the potential to grow into a GM-type role.

DAY-ONE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Set and manage the production schedule — balancing make-to-order customer due dates with make-to-stock priorities for Houston warehouse inventory.
  • Book carriers and schedule truckloads (2–3 per week), including multi-drop shipments to customers and Houston restock.
  • Review customer order confirmations prepared by the Office Administrator before sending; be capable of preparing them directly in Sage 50 and our custom portal when needed.
  • Oversee the inventory monitoring system:
  • Production/Warehouse staff complete counts and report stock.
  • Ops Manager ensures accuracy, maintains reorder points, and issues routine POs for resin, consumables, and tooling.
  • Review supplier quotes and approve routine purchases within set limits.
  • Act as first point of contact for staff questions/issues, escalating only exceptions or strategic matters to the President.
  • Create training and SOP documentation system:
  • Work with experienced staff to capture procedures.
  • Ensure SOPs are written, updated, and followed.
  • Use labourers/assistants for formatting, entry, and photo capture.
  • Handle freight and delivery issues directly with carriers and drivers.
  • Support ISO/quality systems (SOPs, calibration logs, audit prep).
