The Worcester East Water Users’ Association (WE WUA), located near Worcester, is seeking a proactive Operations Manager to oversee the planning, coordination, and implementation of technical operations related to the Association’s water management infrastructure. This role is central to ensuring sustainable and equitable water distribution in support of the surrounding agricultural community.
The successful candidate will take responsibility for the monitoring and management of water usage, the upkeep of all mechanical and water infrastructure, and the coordination of projects aimed at protecting and enhancing local water resources. This is a practical, field-based leadership position that combines strong technical insight with day-to-day operational oversight and people management.

REQUIREMENTS:

• A Diploma or Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
• A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a supervisory or technical operational role
• Registration with ECSA will be advantageous
• Proficient in MS Office; experience with SCADA systems advantageous
• Fluent in Afrikaans and English
• Excellent problem-solving, planning, and interpersonal skills
• Valid Code B driver’s license
• Physically fit and willing to provide after-hours operational support as and when required

Water Operations & Infrastructure

• Monitor dam levels and pumping operations via SCADA
• Investigate meter readings and anomalies to ensure accurate usage control
• Diagnose and plan proactive maintenance for pipelines, canals, and pump stations
• Lead and participate in infrastructure maintenance and repair activities

Project & Environmental Management

• Coordinate projects related to the removal of invasive alien vegetation
• Liaise with contractors, funders, and landowners for implementation of funded work
• Ensure compliance with environmental and safety protocols throughout project execution

Staff Supervision & Safety

• Supervise a small technical team and oversee daily work planning and task allocation
• Facilitate staff training, performance discussions, and discipline when necessary
• Manage occupational health and safety compliance, inspections, and reporting
• Oversee site security and ensure all facilities and assets are well-maintained

Operational Reporting & Liaison

• Report on water usage, maintenance status, and project progress to the CEO
• Engage with members, suppliers, and stakeholders
