QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Demonstrable experience in management in youth, adult or community-based service
  • An ability and willingness to relate positively to members, visitors and staff
  • An outgoing and friendly personality, able to communicate well and engage a wide range of people
  • Ability to react positively and effectively when faced with unwanted high-risk behaviours from members, whether targeted towards themselves, staff, visitors or others
  • Good level of IT proficiency
  • Knowledge of housing support services and processes
  • An understanding of safeguarding principles and procedures
  • An understanding of the issues facing young people
  • An understanding of equality and diversity matters

YMCA Southampton, Basingstoke, and the Isle of Wight provide supportive homes for around 200 young people and families. “Members” are people who live at the YMCA. The Operations Manager will work with the Head of Youth Support and Programmes to ensure all members have a positive experience.

Responsibilities

JOB PURPOSE:

YMCA Southampton, Basingstoke, and the Isle of Wight provide supportive homes for around 200 young people and families. “Members” are people who live at the YMCA. The Operations Manager will work with the Head of Youth Support and Programmes to ensure all members have a positive experience.

Our objective is to provide people with support in a trauma-informed approach that improves members’ health and allows them to transition into employment and independent living. The YMCA is committed to adopting evidence-based strategies, such as Advantaged Thinking and Psychologically Informed Environments, and the postholder will support all staff, volunteers, and external organisations in gaining the expertise, knowledge, and self-assurance needed to use these strategies daily. To guarantee the calibre and longevity of supportive housing at the YMCA, the postholder will also collaborate closely with the estates and housing management teams.

MAIN DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Undertake day-to-day operational responsibility for YMCA Basingstoke in delegated duties and as duty manager
  • Line manage, support and develop a team of staff and volunteers
  • Share on-site duty management on a rota system, which includes evenings, weekends and bank holidays
  • Undertake support, planning and assessments with members
  • Develop community-minded support and activities that involve the wider community and engage third parties to deliver support and activities to members
  • To advocate for members and engage partner agencies and services appropriate to the member’s needs
  • Enable job search, training, and volunteering opportunities with members not in education, employment, or training
  • Assist with the selection and induction of those applying for accommodation
  • Work to a rota system including evenings, weekends and bank holidays
  • Act in the interests of your own safety & the safety of others at all times
