Description

EDUCATION

  • Degree in technical, logistics, or management fields (e.g., Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, Logistics).
  • Preferably a 5-year degree in engineering (industrial technologies, management) from Politecnico di Milano or Torino.
  • MBA is a plus.

EXPERIENCE

  • At least 10 years in operational and complex project management positions in logistics/operations.
  • Excellent knowledge of Italian and English language.
  • Experience in managing resources, costs, time and solving complex project-related problems and managing procurement contracts.
  • Experience in leading consulting and multinational companies in the manufacturing or distribution sector.

TECHNICAL SKILLS

  • In-depth knowledge of warehouse, handling, transport and distribution workflows and processes
  • Ability to manage complex operational and logistical projects, including workflow monitoring and resource optimisation.
  • Knowledge of project management methods and tools (e.g. Microsoft Project, resource management software) for tracking phases and progress.

LEADERSHIP SKILLS

  • Strong leadership and ability to lead cross-functional teams to achieve project goals.
  • Strategic thinking.
  • Excellent communication and relationship management skills with suppliers, internal teams and management.
  • Skilled at managing risks, identifying issues and taking corrective action.

Responsibilities

ROLE PURPOSE

  • Mapping the operational processes of the GLS Network, defining the distribution footprint in terms of number, size and location of depots and the network.
  • Design layout and organisation of Depots and Hubs, defining types and quality of automation.
  • Continuously improve the GLS Network to minimise operating costs and maximise quality and service performance for the benefit of customer satisfaction.

KEY ACTIVITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and optimise hub, linehaul and PUD operational processes including those managed via specific software.
  • Manage and coordinate complex operational projects, ensuring efficient planning, execution and closure in accordance with the set objectives.
  • Supervise the progress of operational projects by monitoring deadlines, costs, quality and resources, to ensure optimal execution of activities.
  • Plan and schedule all project phases, including resource management, task distribution and prioritisation, in order to optimise operations and achieve business objectives.
  • Manage risks associated with projects, promptly identifying any critical issues and implementing solutions to mitigate impacts on time and cost.
  • Draft and manage project documentation, including progress reports, performance evaluations, cost analyses and supplier evaluations.
  • Organise and conduct regular monitoring meetings with operational teams and stakeholders to align activities and resolve any emerging issues.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement by participating in post-project reviews to identify opportunities for optimisation and innovation.
  • Collaborate with management in the strategic planning and implementation of long-term initiatives, ensuring consistency between operational projects and business objectives.
