Description Under the direct supervision of the Sr. Operations Manager, the Operations Specialist In-Training supports the day-to-day upkeep and functionality of Roots' buildings, grounds and facilities. This entry-level role provides hands-on experience in performing a variety of skilled tasks, including the maintenance, repair, and light remodeling of buildings and facilities, as well as the servicing and upkeep of machinery and equipment. Working alongside the operations team, the Operations Specialist In-Training plays a key role in ensuring that all sites remain clean, safe, and well-functioning for staff and community members. Duties and Responsibilities: ? Assist with maintenance and operational repairs. ? Help perform weekly inspections of building equipment. ? Assist in the implementation of preventative maintenance schedules upon request of the Sr. Operations Manager and according to building needs, which includes regular visual inspections of all facility equipment – boilers, generators, HVAC, refrigeration, fire alarm, security systems, sump pumps etc. ? Responsible for the proper recycling of paper, cans, and bottles. Includes working closely with staff to ensure that recycling company receives proper materials. ? Conduct general building repairs with maintenance crew. ? Inform Sr. Operations Manager of repairs required, purchases and supplies needed and identifies trades to complete work. ? Responsible for alerting the Sr. Operations Manager of any unusual occurrences and/or damages that have taken place or that may occur. ? Responsible for keeping the maintenance shops in an orderly and organized manner, including maintaining tools, equipment and supply inventories. ? Responsible for janitorial emergency duties and other duties as assigned. ? Knowledgeable of and always implements established safety procedures. ? Participate in training and coaching workshops related to job readiness. ? Participate in department and organization meetings and trainings, as required. Requirements Competencies: ? Willingness and ability to learn technical building maintenance skills. ? Must be willing to learn trade skills from other team members. ? Valid CA drivers license and clean driving record. ? Ability to travel between Roots’ sites. ? Ability to work occasional evening and/or weekend events. ? Ability to multitask, prioritize, provide direction, follow oral and written instructions and maintain effective working relationships with staff, clients and outside maintenance contractors. ? Strong interpersonal, listening and communication skills. ? Ability to lift fifty pounds. ? Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as a part of a team. ?
