Description:

GFL Barrie is looking for an afternoon shift operations supervisor to support our liquid waste processing facility.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Must be available for afternoon shift: 2:30 PM - 11 PM
  • Post-secondary education would be considered an asset
  • Minimum of three (3) years in a leadership, managerial or supervisory role.
  • Related operational experience preferred with knowledge of waste management
  • Knowledge of production management and preventative maintenance principles
  • Ability to develop safe operating procedures
  • Computer skills including Microsoft Excel, Word, Outlook, learn internal systems OMS and Workday.
  • Proven organization, time management and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends, as required
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and customer service skills

Responsibilities:

  • Complete monthly first aid kit inspections, and weekly site inspections.
  • Ensure internal and external training is up to date for Operators.
  • Ensure Job Task Observations (JTO’s) are completed and up to date for Operators.
  • Oversee the planning, completion and documentation of general site maintenance.
  • Ensure on-site operations are conducted in accordance with corporate policies and procedures, within permit allowance and with a significant focus on health and safety, including both lab and operations staff.
  • Oversee the completion of lab technician, operations staff payroll and vacation approvals
  • Strong focus on safety, maintenance and housekeeping in accordance with company and regulatory requirements
  • Report all incidents, safety infractions, non-compliance issues and participate in the investigation and development of corrective actions
  • Conduct training as required.
  • Supervise and coordinate daily operations, providing feedback, coaching and leadership.
  • Lead, motivate and develop direct reports utilizing Job Task Observations (JTO’s), hazard ID’s and Hazard Assessments to reinforce or correct specific behaviors
  • Monitor compliance for direct reports to internal policies and applicable regulations and legislations
  • Plan, assign, direct and monitor work of Operators.
  • Assist with the maintaining and implementation of standard operating procedures (SOP’s/SWP’s)
  • Identify and recommend continuous improvements to processes and procedures Support the site’s Environmental Management System (EMS) and our Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) Program.
  • Ensure all visitors to the site (Contractors, brokers, etc.) are complying with site and corporate safety policies
  • Ensure the compliance of all contractors’ site compliance utilizing Field Level Hazard Assessments and Safe Work Permits
  • And any other assigned duties
