Operates central paging system according to specific Hospital procedures. 1. Receives and screens telephone call and connects the caller to the appropriate extension. Provides general and patient information such as room number, telephone extension, condition and visiting hours. Provides on-call information and places outgoing calls for physicians and staff. 2. Pages physicians and other designated hospital personnel, such as supervisors, technicians, maintenance and security as requested. Monitors all alarms as requested, i.e. fire, gasses, water for fire system and bloodbank alarms. 3. Answers emergency calls and notifies appropriate hospital personnel of code and trauma situations. Assists security in monitoring and resetting fire alarm system. 4. Contacts hospital staff via telephone or beeper and transfers calls. 5. Maintains and prepares a variety of records and reports such as on-call schedules, documentation of trauma information, telephone usage records, overhead pages and beeping. 6. May notify various hospital departments of patient arrival, discharge and visitors. 7. Maintains physician availability records as well as lists of hospital staff; transfers calls. 8. According to written request transmitted by nursing unit, notifies physician of request for consultation, relaying details such as patient name, room number, requesting physician, diagnosis and reason for consult 9. Performs other related duties as assigned. 1. High school diploma or equivalent level of knowledge gained through education and/or experience. 2. Six to twelve months clerical experience preferred.
