Requirements The Ophthalmic Medical Technician is responsible for collecting and recording ocular and systemic patient histories, visual acuities, BP, IOP, Auto refractions, Manifest Refractions, performing external examinations, and dry-eye testing, as well as disease specific extra testing Essential Functions and Responsibilities: Collecting and recording patient medical history Instructing patients on post-operative care, medication use, contact lens care and exam expectations. Performing visual acuity testing, auto and Manifest Refractions (measurements for the glasses prescription), tonometry (measuring eye pressure) (Goldmann required) Measuring pupil size and reactivity using PERRLA Testing elements of movement (eye muscle function) Performing confrontational visual field testing, pachymetry (Corneal thickness measurement) Performing dry eye testing including Zone Quick and TBUT, Interferometry, brightness acuity testing Participating in light cleaning of the facility Maintaining a sanitized environment Performing corneal topography, retinal nerve fiber layer measurements, retinal thickness and topography, fluorescein angiography, B-scan ultrasonography Assisting with contact lens fitting and instructing patients on insertion and removal of contacts. Preparing for and assisting with in-office procedures including consenting patients Assisting with Lasers or minor procedures Qualifications: Required: Minimal of one year in Ophthalmology or Optometry - supporting OD or MD Preferred: Certification Proficiency with EMR and EHR Skills and Abilities: Superior interpersonal and communications skills. Ability to perform manifest refraction is required Ability to perform Goldmann tonometry is required. Ability to effectively multitask Attentive to detail and accuracy.
