Job Details Job Location: Ophthalmology - Newport News, VA 23606 Position Type: Full Time Job Category: Clinical Support Position Summary The Ophthalmic Technician is responsible for prepping the patient for the provider to conduct the eye examines. Major Duties and Responsibilities Responsible for screening patients (e.g., get medical history, update medications and allergies, check vision and dilate the pupils. Determine if further auxiliary testing is needed. Schedule surgery for patients and prepping paperwork required. Maintain a list of supplies needed for the office to ensure office is fully stocked. Responsible for charge entry. Other duties as assigned. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Knowledge of coding with modifiers. Knowledge of hospitals requirements for surgeries. Knowledge of eye medications. Skill in communicating clearly with diverse publics. Ability to work scheduled hours as defined in the job offer. Ability to establish/maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff and the public. Ability to determine appropriate course of action in more complex situations. Ability to read and understand oral and written instructions and follow written protocols. Education / Training / Requirements High School Diploma/GED or equivalent. Six to twelve months related experience/training. Physical Demands Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time. Ability to sit for extended periods of time. Ability to climb or balance for limited periods of time. Ability to occasionally reach, bend, stoop and lift up to 30 lbs. * Ability to grasp and hold up to 25 lbs.* Ability to hear normal voice level communications in person or through the telephone. Ability to speak clearly and understandably.
