Description Job Title: Ophthalmic Technician Department: Clinic Reports To: Clinic Supervisor & Director of Clinical Leadership FLSA Status: Full Time, Non-Exempt Summary: The Ophthalmic Technician will facilitate the smooth and efficient processing of new and returning patients through testing and treatment procedures. Will strive to anticipate the needs of patients and doctors. Will model pleasant, professional, and collaborative behavior and ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations. Essential Functions: Greet patients in a professional and pleasant manner. Obtain and document history in chart on EHR. Perform pre-exam tests, including A/R, confrontational field, stereo vision, color vision, lensometer reading, visual acuity, pupil check, motility, IOP’s and dilation. Perform diagnostic testing – OCT, fundus and slit-lamp photos, visual field. Clean exam rooms using sanitization protocols. Always communicate with the other technicians to ensure proper flow of patients. Auxiliary Functions: Refer patient questions regarding diagnoses or test results to the doctor. Monitor and stock procedure and exam rooms. Stock and report supply inventory. Assist doctor in satellite offices as needed. Perform other duties as needed or assigned. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of clinical testing equipment and proper testing procedures. Knowledge of departmental policies and procedures to provide direction and ensure consistency within the team. Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with employees at all levels. Skilled in exercising a high degree of initiative, judgment and decision making. Skilled in maintaining a consistently pleasant, collaborative, and professional demeanor. Ability to maintain strict confidentiality regarding all patient, company, and employee information. Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to logically approach clinic problems/issues, establish facts and recommend appropriate resolutions. Ability to maintain an organized work area and meet departmental and organizational deadlines. Requirements Minimum Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Excellent interpersonal communication skills Ability to work independently and demonstrate initiative and flexibility within a team environment Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) credential preferred Physical Requirements/Typical Working Conditions Environment: Primarily a temperature-controlled facility. Work may require prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity sufficient to operate clinical testing equipment, a keyboard, mouse, and standard office equipment. Requires normal range of hearing and eyesight to communicate in person, by phone, or over video. Requires occasional lifting of papers or boxes up to 30 pounds. Essential Physical Tasks Sight – sufficient to read physical documents, and images on a computer monitor. Smell – sufficient to discern smoke/something burning, and other odors. Hear – sufficient to hold face to face/telephone/video call conversations, and to discern other ambient noises. Touch – sufficient to operate keyboard, mouse, other standard office equipment, and writing implements. Physical ability/strength – sufficient to lift, twist, turn, reach, climb, kneel, squat, sit, walk, stand, bend as needed throughout a standard shift.
