Description Responsible for daily patient care flow. Performs a number of data collection functions as delegated by the physician and/or Clinic Manager to allow for proper professional diagnosis, treatment, and care of patients’ condition(s). Essential Functions Acquaint all new patients with office procedures to which they will be exposed. Obtain patient history to include chief complaint, history of present illness, medical history (ocular and general), family history (ocular and general), and history of allergies and medications to provide accurate information to Ophthalmologists. Performs accurate and consistent documentation and measurement tasks for new and follow-up patients: Vision acuity, lensometry, entrance tests, contact and non-contact tonometry, refraction, slit lamp exam, angle assessment, and dilation. Manage patient flow efficiently, ensuring minimal wait times and a smooth patient experience. Maintains and cleans all equipment being used and adheres to strict infection control protocols and safety standards. Maintains utmost patient confidentiality. Other duties assigned. Requirements Job Specifications Typically has the following skills or abilities: Certified Ophthalmic Assistant (COA) or Technician (COT) preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience as an ophthalmic technician or surgical assistant. Strong knowledge of ophthalmic instruments, procedures, and terminology. Familiarity with EMR systems (experience with NextGen is a plus). Excellent organizational skills and diligence. Ability to travel daily. Strong interpersonal and communication skills for interacting with patients, colleagues, and health care professionals. Excellent customer service and communication skills. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in documentation. Demonstrated commitment to patient care and safety. Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Ability to multitask, prioritize tasks, and work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Flexibility to adapt to changing schedules and patient needs. Professional demeanor and the ability to maintain patient confidentiality. Basic computer skills and familiarity with electronic health records systems. Full work-up responsibilities and based on knowledge and skills, also responsible for either clinical assistant or scribing, or basic testing tasks.
