OPHTHALMIC TECHNICIAN – UBMD OPHTHALMOLOGY Full-Time Practice: UBMD Ophthalmology / Ross Eye Institute Pay Range: $21.00–$26.00 per hour Status: FULL TIME- In person ---------------------------------------- POSITION SUMMARY UBMD Ophthalmology / Ross Eye Institute is seeking an experienced, patient-focused Ophthalmic Technician to support clinical operations across our ophthalmology practices. The Ophthalmic Technician provides direct clinical support to physicians by preparing patients for exams, performing ophthalmic testing, assisting with procedures, administering medications as directed, and maintaining a safe and efficient clinical environment. This role is ideal for a candidate with prior medical or ophthalmic experience who is comfortable working in a fast-paced specialty setting and is committed to delivering excellent patient care. This position requires travel between three practice locations in Buffalo, Amherst, and Orchard Park, NY based on scheduling and operational needs. ---------------------------------------- KEY RESPONSIBILITIES CLINICAL & PATIENT SUPPORT * Prepare patients for physician visits, including obtaining medical history, performing preliminary exams, and confirming the reason for visit. * Perform routine ophthalmic testing such as visual acuity, refraction, visual field testing, pachymetry, A-scan biometry (IOL master), color testing, tonometry, and pupillary response testing * Provide primary ophthalmic care to patients and act as a clinical assistant to physicians * Administer ophthalmic medications as directed * Counsel patients on physician instructions, medications, drops, contact lenses, and ordered imaging CLINICAL OPERATIONS & EQUIPMENT * Prepare exam and treatment rooms and maintain appropriate stock levels based on standard inventory and physician preferences * Set up and assist with minor OR procedures, maintaining sterile fields and instrument sterilization * Clean, maintain, and troubleshoot ophthalmic equipment; report issues as needed * Process prescription refill requests DOCUMENTATION, QUALITY & SAFETY * Accurately document patient information, testing, and procedures in the electronic medical record (EMR) * Maintain confidentiality and safeguard patient information * Adhere to established clinical protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements * Perform patient work-ups within established timeframes while maintaining excellent customer service FLEXIBILITY & COVERAGE * Float to alternate Ross Eye Institute locations as needed * Support a variety of ophthalmology subspecialties, from pediatrics to adult clinics ---------------------------------------- QUALIFICATIONS * High school diploma or GED required * Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience required * Prior Ophthalmic Technician experience in a medical office strongly preferred * Proficiency with computers and electronic medical record systems * Strong customer service, communication, and interpersonal skills * Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail * Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team * Ability to handle confidential information with discretion and professionalism ---------------------------------------- BENEFITS * 401(k) retirement plan with employer matching * Medical, dental, vision, and life insurance * Paid time off ---------------------------------------- UBMD Ophthalmology / Ross Eye Institute is an Equal Employment Opportunity (EEO) employer.
