Description
The UPMC Vision Institute is seeking a skilled and motivated Ophthalmic Technician to join our clinical team in Pittsburgh. As part of our dedicated staff, you will support high-quality patient care by performing a variety of ophthalmic diagnostic tests and clinical tasks. This position offers consistent daylight hours, no weekends, and an opportunity to work with world-renowned ophthalmologists in a collaborative academic environment. Up to 5%25 occasional travel to other UPMC Vision sites may be requested, based on staffing needs Responsibilities: History taking to include ocular, medical, medication, social and family. Visual acuity assessment: with and without correction, distance, near and intermediate, pinhole, best corrected, potential acuity, brightness acuity Lensometry: automated and manual Pupillary assessment: measurement, compare and evaluate. Visual fields: Amsler grid & confrontation fields Ocular Motility: Knowledge of the functions & anomalies, cover tests, stereo-acuity, nystagmus Refractometry: auto-refractor, transposing scripts from + to - Tonometry: ICare, Tonopen and the care and proper disinfection of each. Supplemental skills: Color testing, glare test Angle assessment & dilation of pupils. Contact lenses: insertion, removal, and instructions. Assist with maintaining office inventory, notifying appropriate staff when supplies are needed, restocking exam rooms, cleaning and sterilizing of instruments and cleaning patient exam rooms at end of day. Travel to other clinical sites. High school diploma or equivalent is required. Experience as an Ophthalmic Technician in an Ophthalmology office or combination of related education and/or experience preferred. Completion of AAO Home Study Course is preferred. Prior optometric or ophthalmic experience preferred.
