JOB DUTIES: Installs wiring, lights and hydraulic components on Florida Forest Service (FFS) equipment for the fabrication shop. This includes outfitting, wiring and plumbing for wildland engines, pickups and transports. Uses specialized tools including but is not limited to welders, cutting torches and various other metal cutting and shaping equipment in the fabrication and repair of both steel and aluminum components. Applies a wide range of vinyl striping material, decals, crew numbers and etc. to automobiles, light, medium, and heavy trucks, vans, sport utility vehicles, and other equipment purchased by FFS as assigned. Performs major and minor repairs on all types of equipment assigned to the FFS. This can include complete engine, transmission and other drive components; overhaul as required. Repairs both gasoline and diesel powered equipment systems, such as cooling systems, fuel injection systems and carburetors on light, and medium duty trucks, as well as other automotive and off-road type vehicles. Repairs power train, transmissions, clutches, brakes and suspension systems of all types of vehicles mentioned above. Assists with the preparation of surfaces for the application of undercoating, primers, finish and paints to industry standards. Removes and replaces wiring, electrical items such as lights, radios, light bars, etc., in the preparatory stage of vehicle painting. Accurately prepares work orders for all work performed for an accurate account of all parts, labor and materials used. Initiates and prepares quotes for purchase orders or p-card purchases of parts and supplies. Assists the supervisor ensuring all work performed by others has an accurate work order prepared before completion. Responsible for the accountability of all tools, test equipment and parts used in the daily performance of duties. Responsibilities extend to include helping the supervisor account for tools, parts and supplies used by others as much as possible. Performs other related work as assigned.
