Description

Mbryonics is at the forefront of free space optical communications. Our product portfolio covers a wide range of emerging technologies from photonic integrated circuits to advanced optical systems and embedded software solutions. Our optical communications systems are integrated and deployed in satellite communications systems. Our work is exciting and challenging and is at the forefront of the technology domains. As part of our expansion, we are currently looking for a suitably motivated - Optical Design Engineer - to join our group.
The mission for the Optical Design Engineer is to design and industrialise the next generation of optical systems of our satellite optical communications terminals and precision optical metrology equipment The successful candidate will work closely with the optical and mechanical engineering teams in the design and development of bulk optical components, optical systems and precision metrology processes. As well as development of the optical satellite payloads, the development of novel high precision metrology and ground support equipment is fundamental to enable volume production of high specification optical instruments.

Responsibilities
  • Take customer and stakeholder requirements and develop first order designs to optimise system performance with other key team members from disciplines such as optomechanics, mechatronics and optical assembly integration and test, prior to elaborating designs for manufacturing through detailed design analysis taking into account manufacturing tolerances, operating environment conditions, material properties and surface scatter.
  • The role is highly creative and requires excellent understanding of the fundamental design principles for refractive and reflective optical systems. A background in imaging systems or optical metrology systems is highly desirable.
  • The role requires excellent communication skills to incorporate key parameters, leading technical discussions with suppliers and also contributing to meetings with customers.
  • The candidate will be responsible for documenting and reporting their work and generating ISO component drawings.
  • Communicate with other competencies to meet deliverable milestones. This responsibility requires a high level of multidisciplinary technical knowledge combined with good communication skills and self-motivation to generate solutions.
  • Serve as a technical expert/owner for one or more optical subsystems, responsible for design, product development and implementation. This will involve developing prototypes and transferring to the production environment, and clearly documenting work.
  • Present results to your team and other stakeholders. Interact with cross-functional groups (engineers and scientists, customer support personnel, manufacturing personnel, assembly integration and test engineers, management, suppliers, external customers). You will cross functional boundaries and build constructive and effective relationships throughout the whole organisation.
  • Create knowledge transfer from design to the factory and provide customer support as a technical expert.
